The day after the last chapter

Scott left school, and ran straight to the hospital. He went inside, and went to Mitch's room. He placed the folder he held on the small table beside Mitch's bed. There was a pencil, a sharpener, and a small, separate eraser.

Scott looked at Mitch. The folder had been filled that morning with completed work, although Mitch was asleep when Scott had come to retrieve the folder. He was asleep again. It was disappointing, but not bad. In fact, sleeping was probably the best thing for Mitch to be doing right now. It was the best way for him to recover.

Scott sighed, resting his hand on Mitch's forehead. "Wake up soon," he whispered.

Mitch opened his eyes. "Okay," he said, laughing at the expression on Scott's face. The blond hadn't expected Mitch to be awake.

Mitch's laugh faded quickly, and he said, "So...why are you bringing me work every day?"

"I thought you'd appreciate it," Scott responded. "But, I'll stop if you want me to."

Mitch shook his head. "No, I really do appreciate it. I said it wrong. Thank you. But, why do you do it?"

Scott shrugged. "Well," he said, "I-I guess that I just wanted to sort of apologize for rejecting you. I basically said it by mistake. I wanted to agree. I really did. I just...well, I was just kind of surprised, ya know? I mean, you could probably have anyone that you wanted. I never thought that you'd even notice me."

"Of course I noticed you," Mitch said. "You were part of the minority. You hung back when everyone mobbed me. You even tried to get them to relax. You always jumped to remind other people that I was just a human." He shrugged. "You also treated me as such. That's what I need in someone that I'm going to date."

Scott looked down, thinking. He had never thought that Mitch would take any notice of how Scott acted around him. It was true--they had only ever talked to each other a few times, but, when they did, Scott just acted like he was talking to a regular human being.

"Is anything wrong?" Mitch asked.

Scott nodded. Then he shook his head. "I mean, I just...I never really thought about that."

Mitch nodded. "Okay," he said. "I suppose that makes sense.  That you wouldn't think about it, that is. But, I look at that a lot."

Scott thought about that for a moment; then, he decided to make his shot. "Mitch," he said, "Will you go out with me?"

Mitch nodded, smiling. "Although, we should probably wait until I, y'know, get out of the hospital."

"Yeah, that would probably be pretty good," Scott agreed.

Scott and Mitch spent the next several minutes discussing the details of their date. They were excited, and they both had ideas for what to do. They ended up deciding to go to a fancy restaurant, and eat there. They would get their desert to go, and would eat that in the park. they were very eager for it.

The next day, Scott and Mitch were sitting together on Mitch's bed, and talking, when Kirstin walked in.

"Hi, Scott," she said, smiling. She handed some papers to Mitch. "I need you to edit these a bit," she said. "Just whatever you think. If it's fine, don't overdo it. You know how to do this."

Mitch nodded. "Thanks, Kirstie," he said.

"Also," she added, "Do you think you're gonna be up for a press conference soon after you get discharged?"

"I think so," Mitch replied. "Once we know when I get out, then we can schedule it."

"Alright," Kirstin said, smiling. "That's very good. I hope it won't be too long!"

"It won't be," Mitch responded. "Now goodbye, Kirstin."

"Bye," she replied. "So ya'll can have some Scomiche time!"

***

This is a shorter one, but that's alright. It contained a lot: Scott and Mitch made up, and will be going out, and Kirstin dubbed them 'Scomiche.' So, it was a short chapter, but an important one.

I hope you guys like it!
