unexpected - ruel van dijk

epilogue

things have been good. in fact, things have been better than good. 

ruel asked me to be his girlfriend right after we kissed in the rain after his concert. i knew it was what i wanted, and i couldn't have been more content with any decision i've ever made.

"brynne!" my mum's voice echoes from downstairs. 

"i'm coming!" i yell back as i adjust my gold hoops in the mirror. tonight at midnight, ruel is releasing his 'free time' ep. he named it after my favourite song he's ever written. i grab my bag and rush downstairs. ruel has just gotten back from melbourne, because he was on the project news program to do promo for his release. i run down the stairs to see ruel standing at my front door in a yellow t-shirt and blue jeans, talking to my mum. he glances up at me, a small smirk on his face.

"hey baby" he says quietly, while still smiling. i peck him on the lips and grin back at him. 

"i'll see you tomorrow mum" i smile, she smiles back.

"have fun you two" she says as she waves us out the door. we get into ruel's car and he starts the engine. 

"how was melbourne?" i ask him. 

"i mean we were only there for a matter of hours" he laughs "but it was good"

"that's good" i smile, he leans over and kisses me again. 

"i still missed you though" he jokes.

"ew you make me cringe" i laugh. he flips me off.

"you love it though" he tells me. i continue to laugh and shake my head at his stupidity. "you are NOT ready to hear the new ep tonight". 

"i still can't believe you wouldn't let me hear any of it while you were in the studio" i exclaim.

"and ruin the surprise?" he smiles at me.

"ruel, it was practically torture!" i tell him. and it literally was. ruel wouldn't let me hear any of the songs on his new ep, because he wanted me to hear them 'when they were perfect' as he told me every time i would ask him.

"coco's excited to see you" he says. 

"well i'm excited to see her too" i reply, as we turn into ruel's street. we pull into his driveway and ruel gets out of the car, runs clumsily to the other side and  opens my door. "how gentlemanly of you" i mock him. he rolls his eyes and laughs. i drape my arms around his waist and his hand falls just below my ear, cupping my jaw. he kisses me lightly. i have never felt such euphoria in my life than when i'm with ruel. he has this energy about him that makes me wish every second spent with him would last a lifetime.

he takes my hand and we head towards his front door. he opens it and we head inside to be greeted almost instantly by his dog wilbur. i bend down and scratch behind his ears. ruel and i walk through to the kitchen, where his family are finishing up making dinner. 

"brynne!" coco runs and embraces me in a hug. 

"long time no see" i laugh, we were literally hanging out the other day.  

"hi brynne" kate smiles at me as she finishes up putting salad dressing on a beautiful looking pumpkin and rocket salad. she gives me a hug as well. i say hi to sylvie and ralph who are outside sitting on the balcony while ralph is cooking meat on the barbecue. i help kate carry the salads out to the table and we all take our seats. ruel sits next to me.

"are you excited for tonight?" coco asks me.

"yes!" i reply. "especially since i haven't heard any of it yet!" i tell her.
