Halo x RWBY (Ruby x Reader)

Ch 18 Grimm Incoming

The flight was a long one at that. Team RWBY and Asher fell asleep leaving Oobleck and Y/N awake. Oobleck was curious about who exactly they are.

Oobleck: I'm a man that stands by history  but in all my years I never seen people such
as you. Now if you do not mind, may I ask why you two decided to become huntsmen?

Y/N: It is quite a simple matter. Given what we went through there was not much options.

Oobleck: I beg your pardon.

Y/N: If you go this far to ask I'm sure you saw our files as it is available to the teachers. Then there is the fact of the given injuries Asher and I sustained. Though I suspect most would just gloss over it.

Oobleck: Ah yes they were quite serious with the doctors perplexed how you two survived.

Y/N: I will tell you a tale that is common with those of our program. Let's just say you are a child living the normal life or at least what you can in a galaxy wide conflict. There is this alien group that decides humanity is to be extinct as we were in the way of their holly journey. They attack your planet and your family dies leaving you orphaned.

Oobleck: Go on.

Y/N: Then a mysterious person that offer you revenge. You decide to take it and train to be a soldier. Now was this wrong? Yes, but when we were at the brink of extinction the ends justify the means.

Y/N breathes for momentarily before he then continues again.

Y/N: We were what you may call expendable. I had no qualms with this and neither did none of us seeing what we were doing. As for Asher I did not meet him until paired up for a two man squad for strategic missions. He was silent at first due to trauma but he clearly would grow out of it. Recruited to be soldiers ages of six to eleven. Getting transported here we were cut off of all contact. Now as you can guess we do not have much options given what we are so we went ahead and choose this path to take. It was one of our best choices though and I found Ruby. This group is a crazy one but ours.

Oobleck: In this situation I do have nothing to say. Quite perplexing if I do say so myself.

Y/N: At least we knew that theirs deaths were not in vain. That war was won at a heavy cost.

Oobleck: I do appreciate the information you shared. It was quite a heavy subject indeed but (looks at time) we should be arriving now.

The lights within the bullhead turned on and  woke up the two teams. Its bay doors opened
to reveal the night sky.

Oobleck: I have everything schedule and if it all goes to plan this mission should be done by the afternoon tomorrow. As we land we all will make the base camp.

Those who slept listened sluggishly. They just basically woke up only to set the camp to then sleep in. Jumping out the teams all started to prepare the camp. With it done they went to sleep. Y/N went to a tree and Ruby followed. She goes to lay on his shoulder.

Ruby: Y/N I can't sleep. It's no fair how can Asher just fall asleep like that.

Y/N: Asher may have trained himself to sleep at a moments notice. We can both go longer without any sleep, but he always said how you never know when the next time we would get sleep.

Y/N waits for a response only not to hear one. He looks to his side to see Ruby sleeping.

Y/N: Why am I not surprised. Well I guess I will stay up until someone can take my shift and take watch.
