Luckily, I had some of Vince's clothes in my room. Random pieces of clothing that I'd inadvertently stolen from him, or stuff that he'd left over. Anyway, we managed to make an outfit appropriate for church that Sunday morning.
I could tell he was still on edge about the whole Celine thing. He was considerably quiet and solemn all morning on our way to church and on our way to his house after.
Surprisingly, Matt had actually managed to get the house cleaned up before we got there. Well, he'd had help from Liz, from the looks of it, but the house was as good as new. Not a beer can in sight. It was like the party never happened.
"Thanks for letting me use your place, Vince," Matt was saying. "Sorry it got out of hand though, I didn't expect that. Is Celine okay?"
Vince nodded, "Yeah, just a misunderstanding,"
"Stop staring at him," Liz said to me from where we were standing, a few feet away from the guys.
I laughed, "I can't help it,"Truth is, I was worried about him. Or about Jonah. Of what he might do to Jonah if he let his anger go unchecked. I could feel it, he was tense, really tense. And I didn't know what to do to help him. I couldn't bring myself to believe that Jonah had hurt Celine. Jonah, the Jonah I knew, was really just a big softie at heart. And truth be told, I didn't feel as protective of Celine as Vince did. Finding out that the person responsible for hurting her, whether true or not, was someone he'd befriended, well I understood his sour mood.
I got an idea as Matt and Liz were leaving.
"Hey, can you do me a favor?" I asked him.
"Sure," he answered shrugging off his jacket.
"I think I'm getting cramps, and they hurt real bad, can you grab me some pain killers from the pharmacy?"
He raised a brow, "Aren't you safe for another few days?"
I shrugged, "They aren't always on time like clockwork, Vince,"
He nodded, "Okay, do you need anything else? Chocolate? You get cranky when you don't have that, and I think you finished what we had,"
I nodded, "Yes please,"
"I'll be back soon," he kissed my forehead and left.I immediately rushed to the kitchen to get breakfast ready. Vince loved it when I made blueberry muffins so he always had ingredients stocked in the kitchen. I stirred up a small mixture, enough for at least twelve muffins and tossed them in the oven. Aunt Shar always said the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Well, here's to hoping. I changed out of my lengthy dress into a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, both Vince's, and wrestled my hair into a bun. Then I turned on the radio in the kitchen and started to dance as I did my dishes.
That's why I didn't hear Vince come in. I was still dancing, really hopping about, when I turned and found him comfortably seated in a chair, watching me in amusement.
"Something funny, Mr. Delavigne?" I asked.
He shook his head, "Not at all, Miss Sanders, by all means, carry on,"I shook my head and turned to the oven, still swaying to whatever song was blasting through the speakers. I had to get myself a radio like that. The song blended into another, one that I knew, and I started singing along. When I turned around again, Vince was still watching me, still amused, so I kept at it. Singing and dancing, well really I was just throwing my arms about and moving from one spot to another, I'm sure I looked crazy. But it got him laughing so I figured I could continue looking like a fool for a few more minutes.
I danced around the table, exaggerating my movements. By the time I got to his side, he grabbed me by my waist and pulled me onto his lap, laughing uncontrollably.
"What the hell are you doing?" He asked pulling the hair tie I'd worked so hard to tie up, out of my hair.
My hair came tumbling down, over my face and shoulders, like a dark curtain. He brushed it back, tucking a few strands behind my ears. I smiled at him.
