Y/n POV
I can't believe that I'm dancing with King Peter, I think to myself. I bite my lip out of nervousness. I didn't know what to say to him. I also didn't want to say anything embarrassing. I settled with something safe.

"Happy birthday, by the way." I smiled, feeling like there were butterflies in my stomach.

Peter smiled. "Thank you. It means a lot coming from you."

I felt my cheeks redden, not knowing what to say. We continue to dance, and I felt butterflies in my stomach as we made eye contact. "Your not so bad at dancing." Peter says softly, continuing to look in my eyes.

"You should be grateful." I smile. "Usually by now I would have stepped on your toes at least once. I guess all the dance lessons my friend gave me paid off."

He laughed, making my heart flutter. Out of the corner of my eye, I spot my aunt. She hasn't noticed me yet, but I felt my whole body tense. Peter seemed to notice. "Is everything alright?"

I bring my gaze back to him. "It's nothing. Just thought I saw someone."

He obviously wants to ask more questions but doesn't, thankfully. I didn't know how to explain that my aunt forbade me to come. I didn't want to ruin his evening with my problems. Besides, it was his birthday. I made sure that my back was to my aunt, so she wouldn't see my face.

Peter's POV
I notice Y/n get tense. I wanted to know why, but I could tell she didn't want to go into details. She would tell me when she was ready. I don't want to chase her off. If the King thing hasn't, then I'm not going to do anything to jeopardize this. I really liked her. She was interesting. She didn't even recognize me when we met in the clearing. It was a nice change of pace.

"So, King Peter---" Y/n began.

"You can call me Peter." I tell her, wanting to hear my name rather than my title.

She smiled, my heart skipping a beat. "Peter, how do you like being king?"

I took a deep breath, thinking. "It definitely has its advantages, but sometimes, I feel overwhelmed. Having to act a certain way, make all these important decisions and hoping I'm making the right one."

Y/n nods in understanding. "It must be hard. But Narnia is definitely better since you and your siblings showed up."

I smiled. "It must've been hard for you, being winter all the time."

She smiled softly. "It wasn't all bad. My dad and I made it fun." She tells me, warmth and a hint of something else in her voice. Sadness. "We would get into these snowball fights while doing chores together. Having hot chocolate together if a storm came. It was never boring. Even though my aunt would always complain. Along with her daughters. I could take it because I always had him."

I could see tears forming in her eyes. "What happened?" I ask her softly, wanting to help her somehow.

She swallowed and looked into my eyes. "He... he uh, died. In the war."

"I'm so sorry." I tell her, feeling awful. She shrugged and tried to smile. "It's okay. He died fighting for what he believed in and I couldn't be more proud."

We dance for a few minutes, silence engulfing us. I knew what she must've been feeling. "Back where I'm from," I begin, Y/n looking into my eyes once more. "There was a war going on too. My father had to go and our mother sent us away because it became too dangerous where we lived. I had to be responsible for my siblings, protect them. Then we ended up here... I had no idea what was going to happen. A witch wanting to kill us? That was new and an army waiting for me to lead? I thought I was dreaming. But, I wouldn't change a thing."

Y/n smiled. "What's it like where you come from?"

I thought about it for a minute. "Let's just say there are no ice queens where I'm from."

She laughed and we continue dancing. I never wanted this night to end. I wanted time to stay still, so I could be with her. Her eyes were so full of life.... I could get lost in them. "Peter." A voice beside me said, it was Edmund. "I need to talk to you for a second. It's important."

I nod and look back at Y/n. "I'll be right back."

She smiled and nodded. I turn to Edmund and he leads me out to the hall. I hoped she was still there when I returned.

Y/N's POV
I felt myself smile contently, watching Peter walk away. "Oh girl you got it bad." Came Emily's voice, a knowing smile on her face.

"What?" I asked her, faking ignorence. She laughed. "You know what I mean. You really like him."

I sigh in defeat. "Yeah.." I say and look in the direction that Peter had walked. "Yeah I do."

Emily squealed and hugged me. "I'm so happy for you!!" She says, hugging me tighter. "I thought this day would never come."

I couldn't help but laugh. A voice made my heart drop. "What are you doing here?"

I froze and pulled away from Emily, turning towards the voice. It was Jade. (I just realized I've been calling her stepmother instead of aunt... 😨 oops! Minor mistake! Sorry if I confused you!😳 back to the story!) She was seething with anger. If looks could kill, I would be dead. Emily's breath hitched in her throat. I square my shoulders and look my aunt Jade in the eye. "Aunt Jade," I begin, clearing my throat. "I'm here for the same reason you are."

She scoffed, her eyes narrowing further. "I specifically told you that you were forbidden to come."

"And I told you- everyone was invited. Including me."

She stalked towards me. "Insolent girl." She hissed, grabbing my arm. She began to drag me away, her grip strong on my arm. I looked to Emily. She looked like she was going to do something but I shook my head no. I didn't want her to get dragged into this. Before I knew it, I was out the door, wondering what my aunt was going to do to punish me.

Emily's POV
I have to help her, I thought, wanting to help my friend. Her aunt was horrible. She did awful things to Y/n sometimes. Locking her up on her room for a few days, giving her scraps of food from the dinner table. I couldn't let this happen to my best friend.

King Peter! He could help me. I look around, trying to find him. I then spot. He looks like he's looking for someone. Y/n. I walk towards him. He looks to me and gives me a small smile. "Your Y/n's friend right?"

I nod and he must sense my urgency because his smile fade. "What's the matter?"

"It's Y/n," I say, trying to stay calm. "Her aunt forbade her to come. I convinced her to come because she wanted to see you again. She caught Y/n and brought her outside. She needs your help."

He nods. "Where did they go?"

I lead him to the doors that Y/n and her aunt left in. I stop and see a necklace that Y/n always wore on the ground. King Peter knelt down and picked it up. I saw the worry on his face and I couldn't help but feel my own anxiety.

"Where does Y/n live."
