EVIE'S POV

Today was the day, the day I would become Mrs Henderson. I wasn’t able to sleep at all last night and just as I began to drift off my bridesmaids burst through the door to get me up and ready to have my hair and make-up done.

The lovely two ladies, Sarah and Marie, doing our hair and make-up arrived shortly after that, getting started right away. The bridesmaids had their hair in a braided up-do with natural pinky toned make-up. My hair was lightly curled and styled in half up, half down do with natural make-up. Once they had finished I thanked them and waited whilst the girls changed into their dresses. Soon enough they stepped out of the adjoining room all dressed in their finery. “Oh my god!” I gasped. “You all look so beautiful!” They were all wearing a strapless pale pink floor length dress. “Thank you! Now you need to get changed.” My sister said ushering me into the dressing room.

I slipped on the beautiful wedding dress, whilst my mother did up the back. I stared in the mirror. I couldn’t get over the fact that today I was getting married and neither could my mum as she began to cry. “My little girls all grown up.” She gushed hugging me tight.

A small thought of Dougie crept into my mind, I quickly pushed it away. Today was my wedding day. I was marrying Alex, not Dougie. I had to get that into my head. I was interrupted by my Dad telling me it was time. We all made our way to the door leading into the stunning room we would be getting married in. There mum slipped into the room to take her seat and the bridesmaids lined up in twos in front of me. I pulled my veil over my head before Dad and I took our place at the back

Soon enough the music started and the doors opened. We made our way slowly down the aisle. I felt everyone’s eyes on me as I prayed I wouldn’t trip, focusing on Alex at the end of the aisle. Jack whispered something in his ear I could only assume was some weird joke of his. As we reached the end Alex turned to face me. A huge smile began to form as he lifted the veil from my face, my Dad taking a seat. “You ready?” He asked. I nodded. The registrar began to speak, rambling on about what a wedding was. I blanked him out, taking in the beauty of the room and the man next to me. It seemed Alex wasn’t listening either as he squeezed my hand, throwing me a wink. My mind began to wander, Dougie once again entering my mind.

"Is there any reason why these two should not be married?" The registrar asked. An awkward silence filled the room. I felt my heart beating heavily. Just 1O minutes and I’ll be married. It will all be fine. Oh why did I agree to this? "Ok, Alex Ja-" The registrar started "Wait!" Everyone in the room turned to look at the man with dirty blonde hair, wearing a short sleeved T-shirt with his full arm of tattoos on show and a pair of knee length shorts who had just run in through the big glass doors at the back. Dougie. "Have they.. Are they..." He said out of breath from the running "Wait! What are you-" 3 boys shouted running into the room and stopping abruptly as they saw the scenario. "Are.. Are they married yet?" Dougie asked the registrar, who shook his head. "Oh good, well umm I... I just wanted to say... I'm just going to come straight out with this. I know we've only known each other for 4 months but ever since that first day I accidentally knocked you over in Starbucks we've been best friends, you were there for me when I needed you and great fun to be around. Whether it's your awful attempt at jokes or weird comments on films you never fail to make me smile. I guess what I’m trying to say is that these past few months I’ve fallen head over heels in love with you and I just wanted you to know that I love you." Tense vibes filled the air and the whole room fell silent. You could've heard a pin drop. He looked around the confused people gawping at him before mumbling "I'm... I'm sorry, I shouldn't of done that, sorry." And turning to leave the room, his bowed down. "Wait! I...” I interrupted. He span around. I could feel hundreds of eyes all focused on me, waiting to hear my reply. I turned to face Alex, the one I should be marrying right now. But it doesn't feel right; in this dress, in these shoes, in this building. What am I doing? "I...” I continued looking at Dougie before turning to Alex "I'm sorry Alex, I… I’m really sorry.” I finally chocked out, not really knowing what to say. I slipped the engagement ring of my finger, I’ve been wanting to do that for ages, and placed in Alex's palm. Gasps spread throughout the room, a bit like dominos. I walked over to Dougie and took his hand before exiting the room, not looking back, leaving the gasping dominos behind. As soon as I stepped out of the building onto the soft grass and looked into his beautiful blue eyes, I knew I’d made the right choice.
