EVIE’S POV
I woke up to find a blanket wrapped around me. That’s weird I don’t remember falling asleep with a blanket on me. I pulled it closer. It smelt of Dougie. Speaking of Dougie, where is he? I stood up from the sofa and walked into the kitchen where I found a note.
Evester,
Sorry but I had to go, thanks for a great evening!
Oh Tom dropped of Gi’s new book by the way.
See ya soon
Dougie
Sure enough Gi’s book Billy and Me was placed beneath the note. Oooo can’t wait to start reading it!
Over the next few days I faffed around doing nothing in particular. I had less and less to do ticking everything off my ‘To-do’ wedding list. With nothing to do I began to think more and more about Dougie, to the point where I literally thought of nothing else. His soft, bouncy hair, his heart warming, cheesy grin, his gentle eyes and his scratchy stubble would play around my head like a film at the cinema. He would pop into my head all the time. Whenever I was doing normal household shores, I would just start thinking about him. I would be cleaning the dishes, and I’d remember the time he flicked soap at me, and we had a hilarious full out water fight in the kitchen. Eventually something clicked into place in my brain and I realized: the butterflies in my stomach when he looked at me, the ‘moment’, the little gestures he did that always made me smile, were all trying to say something. That maybe, just maybe, somewhere deep down I loved him.

I settled down on the sofa and starting Gi’s book. I was about 10 pages in when there was a knock at the door. I put the book down and went and answered it.
“Hello!” Gi said carrying a Tupperware contained in her hand.
“Hello! Come in!” I said letting her in then closing the door behind her. “Thanks for your book, I just started reading it!”
“Oh no problem, I see Tom dropped it off alright then! I made some nutella cakes and couldn’t eat them all on my own so I thought I’d come and see you.” Gi replied
“Oooo I’ve never had nutella cakes!”
“So are you exited for the wedding?” Gi asked after we had devoured 1 or 2 (or maybe 3) of her fantastic nutella cakes.
“Yeah.” I lied
“Cool. Umm you know you invited us all to the reception?”
I would’ve invited them to the ceremony bit but Alex was having none of it “You don’t know them well enough!” He argued.
“Yes.”
“Well Dougie can’t come because he’s gone away for a bit, he said he’s sorry.”
“Oh. Where has he gone?” I said confused
“I don’t know Tom told me this morning.”
Why would he go away? He never told me about going away?
“Is there something you want to tell me Evie?”
“What? No… Why?” I said taken off guard by the sudden question
“It’s just, forgive me if I’m wrong, but you and Dougie seem to be getting rather close…”
“Oh umm.. would you look at the time! I’ve got to go meet… Uh meet the cake lady to sort out the cake for the wedding. Sorry. Thanks for coming though, lovely to see you, and those cakes were fab!” I rushed
“Oh ok.” Gi said suspiciously as she grabbed her coat and left “Bye!”.
Oh god she’s going to be so suspicious. I shouldn’t have panicked like that! I felt really bad for chucking Gi out like that. I’ve been kidding myself for the past few days that I love Alex not Dougie. It will always be Alex. Alex, Alex, Alex. It has to be Alex! We’re getting married in a week!
