Christmas was approaching quickly and I wasn't as excited. Snow was falling but I wasn't smiling. Yes, I was partly over the break up almost a year later but I wasn't over the shattering feeling in my chest when I thought about Christmas.
When Christmas would approach, I used to decorate my room and listen to Christmas music all day. I used have a smile that couldn't easily be wiped off my face. I used to look forward to driving around and looking at the Christmas lights as I drank hot chocolate.
But, now when I think of Christmas, I think of the pain I felt that day and how immediately my day went from happy to sad all in the matter of minutes.
When I thought of Christmas, I thought of him. The guy with the name too painful to say.
But now, it wasn't Christmas. No, it was Thanksgiving and I was getting ready in this moment for the present, not the future. We were going to eat a thanksgiving lunch at my dad's boss' house and then meet my family for dinner later. I smoothed down my black dress in front of the mirror and readjusted my scarf.
My dad has been working at his company for years and we were somewhat close to him. He invited us over often to meet his new wife and step son but we always turned down the offer because we were busy or had plans already. But when he invited us for thanksgiving, my dad couldn't turn down the offer. He was about to since we had the family dinner but, his boss suggested a lunch instead of dinner.
So here we were, getting into the car at noon in our nicest clothes, on our way to lunch.
As soon as we got there, we were greeted by none other than Michael, my dad's boss, himself. Once we walked inside, we were greeted by his beautiful wife whose name was Amy.
"Logan, get downstairs!" Michael yelled.
"Almost ready." a voice shouted with an annoyed tone.
"He's worse than a girl." he whispered and we all chuckled. "Come. Sit down." We all sat down on the couches which were so comfortable that I could immediately fall asleep on them if I just got comfortable enough...
"Finally!" Michael snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked up to see a tall boy with brunette hair and nice brown eyes. I mean, he wasn't unattractive. "Guys, this is Logan."
"This is Mr. Greene, his wife, and his two kids, Charlotte and Seth." Michael introduced us as Logan shook hands with each one of us.
"Shall we eat now?"

"This is delicious." my mother continued trying to make small talk. We had been sitting here for about half an hour just eating different foods which were actually all really good. The whole time I hadn't said anything because it was mostly just the adults talking. I continued to just sit there and enjoy my mashed potatoes. They were like gifts sent from the Gods.
"So Charlotte, how's school?" Michael asked before taking another bite of his stuffing.
"It's going good. Were just on break right now for Thanksgiving."
"Ahh I know." his wife joined in. "Logan's going to have to start at that new high school. Well if it ever opens."
"Yeah. I've noticed it gets closed down because of the snow a lot." I replied.
"Yeah." she said. "But I love this time of year." I nodded my head.
"Are you excited for Christmas?" Michael asked. I hesitated.
"Not really." I admitted.
"Why not? Christmas is the best time of the year!" Michael said excitedly. I shifted uncomfortably. I didn't really want to get into any detail about this.
