Y/n's POV:
i woke up to the smell of pancakes, and the sound of bacon sizzling on a pan. out of instinct, i rubbed my eyes and stretched. reaching for my phone and checking the time, i saw that it was 7:36 am on saturday, july 4th. i set my phone down and sat up in bed, turning my head to face the bright, blinding sun, peaking through my curtains. i squinted and shielded my eyes from the blazing morning star. finally, i decided to get up and go downstairs to eat what my sister had cooked for breakfast. when i finished eating, my sister and i got ready for a fourth of july beach party. since our parents were out of town, my sister was in charge, which meant i wasn't going anywhere without her - and she wasn't going anywhere without me.- i wasn't planning on swimming, so i wore a short, white dress, a denim jacket, and a pair of red converse. i applied some mascara and fixed up my hair. i grabbed my small purse and threw some items in it. once i finished, i grabbed my keys and skipped down the steps. i called out for my sister and we left the house. i hopped in the driver seat and pulled out of the driveway. finally, we were on our way 45 minutes later we arrived at the beach and my sister and i parted ways. she went to her friends, i went to talk to my friend, olivia. olivia was pretty famous. she was an actor, a singer, and a model. she was also the host of this party. "hey y/n!" she greeted "hey olivia! what's up??" i asked "oh, nothing really. just glad that you could make it." she laughed lightly "well i gotta go greet some more guests, feel free to wander around or grab any drinks or food!" she said kindly "thanks" i responded. i decided to walk around. the sun was setting, causing a beautiful orange, yellow, and blue hue to appear in the sky, with a flush of light pink clouds. while i walked along the beach, taking in the view, i saw this cave-like rock. i decided to head towards it. as i grew closer and closer, i could hear the sound of guitar strings being played. a beautiful melody. as i approached the cavern, the music grew louder. i was by the entrance when i peaked my head in to see who had been playing the tune and singing along. there was a boy. he was wearing khaki pants, a white polo shirt, and a light blue sweater. he had curly, light brown hair that seemed to shine a honey color in the sun. he was extremely talented. i snapped out of my thoughts when he stopped playing. he looked up and saw me. a smile formed on his face. "hey." he said calmly "hi. uh i'm so sorry, i just heard you playing. uhm i wanted to-" i stuttered "that's okay." he laughed slightly. "no need to be embarrassed" he smiled and motioned for me to come closer. he extended his hand and said "joshua" "y/n" i replied shaking his hand. "do you want to hear me play something else?" he questioned "sure" i smiled and sat next to him on a rock. he started to pluck the strings and sang a song that he had mentioned was an original.

the song finished, and i was in awe. after that we continued to talk. i found out that we were the same age and had the same interests. i was falling for this boy. time had passed and i got a text from my sister telling me that the fireworks would be starting soon. joshua and i got up from our spot and headed back to the party. turns out, we were both there for the same reasons and he and olivia were also close friends. once we got back, olivia acknowledged the fact that we were walking together. "i see you two have met.." olivia said playfully winking and nudging my arm. "hey liv, can i talk to you a second" joshua asked, his pleading eyes impossible to say no to. "fine, but quickly" she responded rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest. "excuse us" joshua added politely. it started to get dark and cold, so i sat near the fire and wrapped a giant blanket around me. shortly after, olivia sat down next to me. "do you like him?" she asked plainly "no" i responded getting to the point "oh please y/n. i don't even know why i asked. it's obvious he likes you back. shoot your shot already!" she told me assuringly "can't he shoot his shot with me first?" i whined "y/n don't look now, but he's staring at us- or at you right now. shoot. your. shot" olivia stood up and left. i stared down at the fire in thought. does he really like me? joshua suddenly came into view. "hey. is this spot taken?" he asked pointing down to the open space next to me. i shook my head no in response. he took the seat next to me and i wrapped part of my blanket around him. "you seemed a bit cold" i stated sheepishly. he stared into my eyes. his face dangerously close to mine. there was a booming sound coming from the sky. we looked up to see bright fireworks dancing in the darkness. he turned back to me and i turned back to him. our faces, again, centimeters apart. he closed the space between us, connecting our lips. the kiss was short and sweet, and that was enough. i pulled away. my face lit up a bright red shade, and it wasn't from the fireworks. "i-i know it's soon. but i really like you" joshua said, a hopeful look in his eyes. "i really like you too" i replied "good" spoke joshua, wrapping his arm around me and pulling me closer.
