Taytum's POV
After Chapin and I get a few drinks down she approaches Jayden. I watch curiously, she's drunk and flirting. Jayden is flirting back. I'm not close enough but I can see the way his eyes are dancing. He's definitely into her. I've seen Jayden staring at Chapin before over the years but Chapin didn't believe me.
Chapin pulls him to the dance floor as a new song fills the room. Well, Chapin kept her end of the bargain so I guess it's my turn. I approach Chance his back is turned. He's talking with Matt and Gavin. My teeth sink into my bottom lip as my stomach twists the closer I get to him. I tap Chance on the shoulder. He turns around and raises his eyebrows in surprise when he sees me. "Can I talk to you?" I asked.
"Um, sure," He grimaced. Chance looks over his shoulder at the two guys. They whistle and chuckle as they walk away. "What?" Chance asked as he turns back to face me.
"Are you still mad at me?" I asked moving closer so he can hear me.
He sighs. "I was never angry at you," He licks his bottom lip. My gaze falls to his lips, I so badly want to know what he tastes like. My gaze flickers back to his as my chest begins to rise and fall quickly.
"Yes, you were," I argue.
"I'm angry at Adam don't get it confused. When I moved here I promised myself I wouldn't get involved in bullshit. You want to explain to me why he thinks I'm sleeping with you, though?" Chance arches a brow.
My jaw drops and the air escapes my lungs. It takes me a long moment to answer him. I rub my temples in irritation. "No, I don't. Adam and his friends like to start shit. It wouldn't be the first time they were the cause of rumors. One of Adam's friends saw me talking to you and told him I was flirting with you. I told Adam we were just partnered for a project and he flipped. After that, I broke up with him," I admit.
Chance stares at me for a long moment. He raises his head and chin a fraction. "Because of me?"
"No, it's been coming before I met you," I shake my head.
He nods but he looks as if he doesn't believe me, even though it is true. Chance looks away and suddenly tenses. My gaze follows his. Adam is approaching us. Before Adam can get a word out I jump between Chance and him. My hand flies up and I slap Adam hard across the face. Adam's head whips to the side. His hand brushes along where I hit him as he turns back to glare at me. "Got to have the little bitch protect you, Silvers?" Adam chuckles.
Chance pushes me behind him so fast I gasp. Chance shoves Adam in the chest. "You know for someone who claims to hate his ex-girlfriend so much you're awfully jealous. There are girls everywhere in here man. Why the fuck not pick one, take her home, fuck her and get over it?"
"Maybe I ain't jealous. Maybe I just don't fucking like you," Adam sneers.
"'Cause you think I'm screwing your ex? Fuck I might be but I don't see how the fuck it is any business of yours!" Chance shouts. My jaw drops in shock at what Chance said. Adam's features fill with more anger and he storms toward Chance. Chance is about to take a blow and I'm right behind him. A gasp escapes me. Chance grabs me by the arm and pushes me away so I don't get hurt. I stumble and fall back on my ass as Adam slams Chance against the wall. Chance grunts from the blow and pushes Adam off of him. "Is that really all you got mister quarterback? For being on the football team you kind of hit like a bitch," Chance laughs.
Chance is suddenly antagonizing Adam and I don't understand why. The music has cut off and people gather around to see the two boys fight. Chance punches Adam and Adam falls, flying backward hitting his head on the leg of a chair. "Why don't you let this be a lesson. You shouldn't pick battles you can't win you pussy," Chance sneers. Everyone begins laughing and high fiving Chance. I've never seen Adam so embarrassed and like a coward, he gets to his feet walking out of the house.
Chance ignores the people trying to get his attention as he grabs me off the floor. "You good?" He asked.
"Um..." I trail off and the music starts again. Chance lower his head closer to mine so he can hear me. "What happened to not wanting to be mixed up in bullshit?" His ear is by my lips. He pulls back and looks at me for a moment.
He lowers his lips to my ear so I can hear him. His body nearly pressed against mine. "You don't deserve that shit. Hopefully, he leaves you alone now."
When he pulls back to look at me it sinks in. He antagonized Adam to show him up in front of everyone to embarrass him so he'd back off. He did it for me?
Chance's eyes dance in amusement as what he says hits me. A smile spreads across my lips. "Thanks," I mouth and he nods. "Dance with me?" I ask standing on my toes and leaning into him.
He shrugs. "Sure."
We make our way to the dance floor. Chance grabs my arm and spins me around so my back is against his chest. We sway our hips in time to the music. Chance is a better dancer than I would have thought. He turns me to face him. His arms wind around my waist pressing me against him. My arms wind around his neck as I stare intently into his eyes. His head lowers to mine and his gaze flickers to my lips. Our hips still moving but slower than the beat of the music. He grinds against me. The pulsating between my legs makes my legs shake uncontrollably. If he hadn't had his arms wrapped around my waist I think I would have collapsed.
The song ends but his arms don't leave my waist. His lips are hovering just an inch from mine. "Chance," I breathe. My hands begin to tremble. Chance sighs his hands reach up grabbing mine and pulling them off. I stare at him in confusion. Did I imagine that he almost kissed me?
"I have to go," Chance muttered. He turns and walks away from me quickly. I stare after him surprised.
Chapin dances her way toward me, I chuckle at her. "How'd it go with Jayden?" I ask over the music.
"I'm in love," Chapin giggled. "How about mister mysterious?"
"I'm not sure," I admit. "He's not mad at me but he left."
"Did you see how he whooped Adam's ass? Wait scratch that. Of course, you did," Chapin laughs. I shake my head at my best friend but laugh too.
