Chapter 2: Everyone is Entitled to be Stupid... But You Are Abusing the Privilege

Obi POV

I sigh as I wander the halls of the main floor of the castle. I'd joined Kiki and the knights for training earlier this morning and helped Miss in the greenhouses afterward but now I have nothing to do. I looked for Mitsuhide but one of the passing maids said she saw him going into Prince Izana's office with Master. I definitely can't bother him there.

My steps falter as I hear the faint sounds of piano music coming from the doors leading to the grand ballroom. It has to be Imrei, the chief musician for Wistal Castle and my partner as Master's messengers. It's not uncommon for music to be heard around here and it's always her practicing or creating new music. I move to the doors and lean against the frame as I listen to her play. I've always enjoyed listening to her but I've never told her since she hates me and I'm not sure why. She's left her long dark hair down today, leaving it to fall just above her waist and I can see her deep blue eyes focused intently on the paper in front of her as she absently chews on her bottom lip.

The music fades and I clap slowly, then smirk as she jumps and turns to face me. Her expression falls and she turns away with a sigh. As much as she hates me, I find it rather amusing to pick on her. I move across the ballroom and stand near the piano as she asks me to go away.

"You're no fun." I pout as I prop my elbows on the piano behind me and lean back.

"I do not bother you while you work. Does Master Zen have a job for us?" She asks, not lifting her gaze from the paper.

"No."

"Then why do you insist on bothering me?"

"You know Imrei, you might eventually find yourself a husband if you let your hair down and tried to be nicer."

I sigh as she shoots a harsh glare at me while her fingers play through what she'd just written.

"I am nice, just not to you."

"Ow, you're breaking my heart Darling." I pout jokingly, putting my hand to my head for dramatic effect as well.

I grin at her afterward hoping to see a smile but she tosses the book on the bench beside her at me. I dodge it and it hits the floor with a loud slap.

"Rude."

"You're rude by interrupting." she shoots back.

Imrei and I have continued bickering for several minutes now, like we always seem to do and I catch her as she tackles me and we hit the floor. She's so much smaller than I am and weaker, so it's easy for me to simply pin her beneath me as she tries to hit me. I dodge her attacks with ease, smirking at her stream of insults. Imrei is rather stunning but with her attitude toward me I never voiced that thought. I'm startled by a rather wicked punch to my chin that clacks my teeth painfully. It stuns me enough for her to flip us over but before she can hit me again she is picked up and I find Mitsuhide grinning as he puts her over his shoulder.

"Hello Mitsuhide." She sighs as she resigns to her fate.

"Hello Imrei. I thought you were going to try not attacking Obi anymore?"

"Well, I tried. I can't help it that his astounding powers of absolute stupidity haven't resulted in spontaneous combustion. Until then, I'm stuck dealing with him and he may occasionally get attacked for his gross incompetence at life. It's more of an occupational hazard than anything." She tells him as I get to my feet. That's cute.

Mitsuhide puts her down after she counts to ten and after fixing her hair she settles in front of the piano with Mitsuhide. As I listen to them talk, I move to sit on the piano but Mitsuhide tells me no. I huff slightly and rub my chin as I lean against the sleek black instrument.

"When was the last time you took a break?" Mitsuhide asks her. I guarantee she will say that it was when she attacked me.

"About five minutes ago when I-"

"Attacking Obi doesn't count." He cuts in and I smirk as she deflates.

"Oh," She mumbles as she ties her hair back. "Then I guess before sunrise before I got here. I only have another hour until I'm done for the day though. It's only been six hours."

"Have you eaten today?"

Her eyes widen and I snicker, knowing Mitsuhide will get onto her for it.

"Can I lie and say yes?"

"No. No you can't.

I watch in amusement as Mitsuhide struggles with Imrei to get her off the bench, finally tickling her ribs until she lets go. She's protesting all of it with a continuous rant and struggling against him but she quickly calms and props her elbows against his back so she can see. Her eyes lock onto me and a scowl crosses her face but I smile at her to increase her annoyance.

"You know if you'd just do what he tells you to do he wouldn't have to kidnap you all the time." I tell her and her scowl deepens.

"Oh bite me Obi. Don't you have to go be stupid somewhere?"

"Quite possibly," I smirk. "but this is more entertaining.

"I really hate you." She huffs with a glare.

"The feeling is mutual Darling. You're just so much fun to mess with." I really don't hate her, but it's fun watching her get mad.

"Mitsuhide, can I-"

"No, Imrei, you can't." Mitsuhide sighs as he helps her stand again.

I lean against the wall to wait for them to get food but I'm quickly approached by two of the baker girls. They try to flirt every time I come into the kitchen but I don't pay them much mind. My eyes track Imrei and Mitsuhide and I bite back a frown as they talk and laugh together. I've never been close to someone like that and I'd never get close to Imrei in that way either. How is Mitsuhide the only one she will open up to? My attention is drawn away as I feel one of the girls take my hand to try to drag me away. I look back up for Mitsuhide and Imrei but they're gone.
