Chapter 15: Girls Are Bad At Parking Because They're Being Lied To About What 8 Inches Is

Obi POV

Laying here with Imrei curled up in my arms is pure bliss. I'm not sure what Master was thinking with moving her into my room knowing our situation wasn't exactly willing but I'm not complaining. Imrei and I decided to take a nap together earlier and she told me not to try anything. I hadn't planned on it but I still found myself automatically putting my arms around her. She had tensed at first but didn't say or do anything so we slept like that. I've been awake for at least an hour now, just contently holding her and running my free hand through her hair. It's selfish of me to take advantage of this false marriage like this but I know that once Master returns to sign the papers, I won't have her by my side anymore. Her reactions tell me that no matter how resigned to this she is, she's dying to get away from me. I ruined everything back when I kissed her.

Just before the sunlight completely leaves the window, Imrei wakes up. I still hadn't moved but she'd wiggled around in her sleep earlier so her face was buried in my chest. I look down at her as I hear a quiet yawn and find her deep blue eyes sleepily peeking up at me. I smile softly at her and ask how she slept. Instead of answering me she huffs and buries her face in my chest again.

"What time is it?" She finally asks, her voice muffled.

"Just after six." I answer as I look toward the reflection of the window in the mirror across the room.

"I'm hungry." Imrei whines. "And I need a drink."

"Garak came by earlier, she says there's a kickback tonight. Would you like to grab some food and hang out?"

She nods and finally moves her face from my chest. "I'd like to take a bath... Need to find Shirayuki."

I watch as she slowly gets to her feet and begins to search for her clothes.

After taking a bath with Shirayuki, Imrei came back to the room and reluctantly allowed me to help brush out her hair then we went down to the kitchens. I could tell she was nervous about coming around because of Miron though he isn't there anymore. I kept my hand on her mid-back and she seemed to stay calm after that. We got our food and I took her back to the quarters to eat so she wouldn't be reminded of him. By the time we finished our food, the others started to come out with chairs, tables, lamps, and alcohol. I helped Imrei settle in a seat at the table with Garak, Marnie, her poker buddies, and myself, then made sure I kept an eye on anyone who got close to her.

Apparently while we were gone, the news of our marriage still made its way through the castle. We still aren't sure who exactly was around when it happened but now everyone knows that we are married, but they think it's legitimate. Imrei and I shared a look but didn't correct anyone.

I tense as I feel Imrei's head gently rest on my shoulder as she beats her friends at their latest hand of poker. Both of the men are completely plastered so I don't know if it's her being good at it or they're too drunk to play properly. She's made quite a bit off of them already, including one man's shirt and sword.

"Obi I'm winning!" She cheers.

"Good job my dear wife." I grin as I glance down at her.

I stick out my tongue at Garak as she gives me a smug grin. I still think she had something to do with it. Her eyes widen before quickly narrowing as a smirk crosses her face. Oh no.

"Hey everyone, I think in honour of our wonderful newly wed couple, I think we should toast to them... and they should kiss." She calls out, drawing everyone's attention from conversations, bets, drinks, and the music.

Imrei sits up and looks up at me, a dark blush quickly colouring her cheeks.

"W-What?" She whispers.

"Uh, I-Imrei and I are rather private about our affections so I think it'd be best if we did-" I fumble my words as I try to get her out of it.

I don't want to kiss Imrei without her wanting it and certainly not out of peer pressure.

"Oh, come on Obi. Don't be so modest! Kiss her! Kiss her!"

"Garak-"

My heart drops as it turns into a chant from the other staff settled around the area. I look down at Imrei who is frozen in shock and nervousness.

"We don't have to do anything, Imrei. You and I know it-"

I'm cut off by her sitting up straighter and pressing her lips to mine. I tense but the sounds of our friends cheering dies away as I find myself pulling her closer to me and one of my hands drifts up to tangle in her hair. I'm brought back to reality as we slowly part and I can hear everyone cheering again. Her eyes meet mine and I notice they're glassy but she blinks and tears her gaze away and gets to her feet.

"I-I'm going to bed. Goodnight Obi." She whispers and leaves her winnings and drink behind as she disappears into the building.

I cut a glare to Garak who finishes draining her bottle.

"What? You know you wanted to kiss her. I was just helping it along."

"I may have but you forget that she is a part of this too. She doesn't want me, she never did. I messed up a year and a half ago by kissing her before. I had no intention of doing that again." I hiss so no one else can hear.

"Well she kissed you." She points out and I sigh.

"Because you pressured her into it." I finish off my bottle before getting to my feet. "I'm going to check on her."
