This wasn't the first time Catra had gotten stuck in a tree.
In fact, she was content with curling up in the branches until morning, until she dropped her money. She cussed as the flimsy dollar bills were nearly blown away. She could hear voices creeping closer, and she couldn't take any chances. Slowly, Catra prepared herself to climb down the trunk. Halfway down, a dog barking in the distance startled Catra to the ground. She scrambled for her money, her left arm bruising. The night sky had turned cloudy and black, obscuring the moon entirely. Catra sighed. She needed a real plan to get to Beast Island.
Luckily, a wealthy-looking street stood before her. Even if they didn't have directions, they were bound to have something to eat. She swiftly crossed the street and knocked on the first door she came across. A man with gray and black hair opened the door, smiling kindly. "Can I help you?"
Catra was panicking, she hadn't figured out what to ask. She looked up at him, feeling the bruise on her arm. "Can I have an icepack?"
The man smiled in sympathy. "Of course, come in from the cold." He opened the door open to let Catra inside. A tall woman with long hair stood over a stovetop, preparing dinner.
"Do we have a visitor, Michah?"
"Well, this young lady here needs an ice pack. Do you know where we keep the first-aid kit?"
"Adora had it on her dresser earlier." The woman smiled.
Micah called for Adora up the staircase.
"Wait, Adora lives here?" Catra smirked.
"Sure do!" Adora chirped her blue school uniform still on. She stopped dead as she caught sight of Catra.
"Catra?"
"Adora!"
The girls both ran and hugged each other at full speed, causing Catra to wince. "Sorry!" Adora laughed.
"You two know each other?" The woman asked suspiciously.
The two girls exchanged looks. Adora took a deep breath. "Angella, this is Catra. We were in Miss Weaver's care together."
"Oh. In that case, nice to meet you Catra."
Catra nodded timidly. She turned to Adora. "So, where is this sister with pink and purple hair I've heard so much about?"
Adora laughed. "Glimmer? She's outside, trying to prepare herself for our move."
Our move? What does that mean?
"I tried telling her our backyard isn't anything like the terrains of Ethiopia, but she didn't listen." Angella scoffed.
"She's stubborn, my Glimmer." Micah smiled.
"She gets it from you." Angella pulled a dish of lasagna from the oven. Catra's mouth started to water.
Adora dashed to set the table. "So what brings you to our kneck of the woods?"
Catra shrugged. "Went to a concert, fell out of a tree, the usual."
"Really?"
"Well, I had to do something for my birthday."
Michah clapped his hands together. "How about you stay for dinner? We can work out transportation in the morning."
"Umm." Catra was unsure. This could be a trap. She reached for the door, Adora took her other hand.
"C'mon Catra, stay." She had a certain twinkle in her eye Catra couldn't resist. They sat side by side at the table.
As the rest of the family nibbled at their plates, Catra scarfed her meal down, with wild eyes darting around the room. Adora looked on with concern, before fetching a muffin, lighter and small candle.
