(Josephine's POV)
"Got any big plans for the weekend?"
"My parents say that they're coming to visit but that's it. You?" I answered.
"Nope. Just going to be me, my dog, and some Netflix."
"Sounds fun."
"I guess." She said as the door opened.
"Jacob, you're late today." I said.
"I really wanna know how you do that, Jo-Jo."
"Top secret." I tease.
"We're late because school was canceled today."
"Why?"
"Don't know and don't care."
"That's fair." I said as I started to make their drinks.
After they all left it was very quiet. It was one of our slow days. I was in the middle of cleaning the coffee machine when the door opened. I have cues like sounds and smells to help be determine who walked in, but I got nothing this time.
"Hello? How can I help you?" I asked.
"Josephine? That you?"
I took me a second before I placed the voice.
"Austin, right?"
"Yeah. You didn't recognize me?" He asked in confusion.
When people talk to me I move my eyes to the area where the sound is coming from. I'm pretty good at making it look like I'm looking right at you.
"I'm...I'm blind."
"Oh shit. Really?"
"Yeah." I nodded.
"Kai's here with me to."
"Hello." I smiled sweetly.
"Hi." Kai answered. His voice was incredibly masculine, husky, and deep. It literally gave me chills.
"What can I get you two?" I asked.
They took a seat at the bar and gave me their orders.
"How long have you been working here?" Austin asked.
"A few years." I answered as the door opened. "Afternoon, Mr. Holland. Usual?"
"Yes ma'am."
"It'll be a few minutes."
"That's alright."
"How'd you do that?" Austin whispered.
"What?"
"Know who walked in."
"Magic." I whispered back causing him to chuckle.
"I like you, Josephine. You're funny."
"I try." I shrugged.
After about ten minutes of small talk, the question I had been waiting for came.
"May I ask how....how..."
"How long I've been blind and why?"
"If you don't mind." Austin said.
"I don't mind. I've been blind since I was ten. I'm now 20. As to the why.....well I don't like to talk about that."
"How long have you lived alone?"
"A while now. Now it's my turn to ask questions."
"Fire away."
"What do you do for a living?"
