Chapter Seven

(Josephine's POV)

I quickly handed out the orders that were ready and started taking some more.

Henry is out of town and the cafe up the street is closed. That all means that we're getting their normal customers and Henry isn't here to help.

Of course, I have the help of the other three employees but two called off sick. That just leaves Gracie and I.

It was around one o'clock before everything slowed down and I got a minute to breathe.

"You're doing great." Lisa said.

"What are you still doing here?" I asked.

"I'm skipping work today."

"Why?"

"Because I'm mad at Oscar."

Lisa has been seeing a man named Oscar. They work together. It's office drama.

"Won't you get in trouble?"

"The boss is my cousin, remember?"

"Oh right."

"Anyway, he's been texting me all day but I've been ignoring him."

"Sounds like a relationship starting off healthy." I mumbled as someone walked in.

Lisa left around four and thankfully it wasn't my turn to close up so I left shortly after she did. I was walking back home with Titan by my side when I heard someone behind me.

I couldn't pinpoint who it was at first but then it became clear.

"Austin? That you?"

"It is indeed." He said, walking up beside me.

"Going to Kai's?" I asked.

"Yeah. He's been ignoring everyone's calls all week. Have you seen him?"

"Once."

"How'd he seem?"

I was about to tell him that we talked at the pool, but I didn't. It didn't feel right to me.

"He seemed.....like Kai. Seemed to have a lot on his mind."

Austin nodded.

I was unlocked my door when he was pounding in Kai's. He knocked and yelled for about ten minutes before he gave up and left. He gave me his number and asked me to call him if I saw or spoke to Kai.

When I got inside my apartment I called my brother.

"Hello?"

"Reid, can I ask you something?"

"Of course."

"It's about Kai Nakoa. You're a fan right?"

"Only the biggest fan."

"Do you remember what the date was when he stopped swimming?"

"It was.....it's actually coming up next week."

"Thanks."

"Why the question?"

"Just curious. Thanks. Love you."

"Love you too. Later."

Once I hung up with Reid, I went to try and knock on Kai's door.
