(Kai's POV)

I pulled my hat down low as I got out of my car. My black ball hat was paired with a white t-shirt and a pair of black joggers. I stuck my keys in my pocket and took a deep breath as I headed inside.

I didn't see anyone as I walked in. I didn't see anyone until I got to the main room. I opened the door and the smell of chlorine immediately hit me.

The 18-lane wide pool has thirteen swimmers in it. They were giving it their all. Saw a couple of them that had potential.

I turned my hat backwards as I found the man I was looking for. He had his back to me when I approached him.

I cleared my throat causing him to look up from his clipboard and turn around. His eyes widened and his mouth opened a bit.

"Can I talk to you?" I asked.

He stared at me for several seconds before coming to his senses and nodded. He shouted at the ones in the pool and those sitting on the other side gaining their attention.

"Holy shit." One guy said as he pulled himself out of the pool.

"You're Kai Nakoa. I'm such a big fan." Another guy said.

"Uh thanks."

"Let's go to my office to talk."

We got to his office and I chuckled.

"Nothing's changed." I muttered as I looked around.

"Have a seat." He said motioning you the chair in front of his desk.

"I'm good." I said sticking my hands in my pockets.

"I'm happy to see you. How've you been?"

"Good. I've been good. You?"

"Good."

"The kids and Gina?"

"They're good. Always ask about you. They'll be excited to know that you stopped by."

I nodded.

"What can I do for you, Kai?"

"I uh.....I..." I struggled with the words. Struggled to get them out. "I want in."

His face turned into one of shock. "You what?"

"The trials, the Olympics, I want in."

"You're serious?"

"Yeah."

"Kai, you've been out of the water for over a year. I know how good you were, but-"

"No," I said cutting him off. "I haven't. I've been in it for a while. No one knows. Well one person does. But I've been swimming everyday for the past month or so. Before that it was every other day. It was a while after....after the incident though."

"You been in it? Been swimming?"

I nodded. "A lot. I'm a bit rusty, but I can do it."

"Kai," he said in disbelief.

"I know I disappeared...but..."

"But nothing." He said standing up. "You want in, then you're in."

"I have a couple conditions though."

"I'm listening."

"I don't want anyone to know. Not until trials. I don't want the press to know or anyone else."

"O-Okay. Next?"

"When this comes out, people will talk and ask questions."

"They will."
