(Kai's POV)I checked my phone for the millionth time as I walked into my apartment.
No texts.
No missed calls.
No voicemails.
Nothing.Due to the sleeping pill I took, I overslept and was late for training.
"You're still here?" I asked Quinn when I saw her in my living room.
"Just on my way out actually. My landlord called and said that he saw Max carrying out all his stuff. Thank you for letting me stay. Sorry I had to borrow a shirt."
"A shirt?"
"Yeah, I threw up on mine so I borrowed one of yours. Hope you don't mind."
"No, it's fine. Anyone stop by today?"
"A girl and some guy. Said they had the wrong door though."
"What?"
"Yeah. She had blonde hair and so did the guy. Was kind of weird though, she wasn't looking at me."
"We're you wearing my shirt when you answered?"
"Yeah, my shirt was in the washer. What does that matter?"
"F*ck." I muttered.
That explained why Fi wasn't answering my calls or texts.
"What? Who is she?"
"Forget it. I'll walk you out."
"No need. Thanks for letting me stay. Sorry about all this." She said as she walked out the door.
Once she was gone, I went over and knocked on Fi's door. Her brother answered.
"How may I help you?" He asked.
"Is your sister here?"
"No, goodbye." He said starting to close the door.
I put my foot in to block it. "Do you know where she is?"
"No."
"You're lying."
"I'm not actually. She left with Titan a while ago. Went for a walk I assume."
"About earlier-"
He cut me off. "I don't care. Just....just don't hurt my sister, not Jo-Jo."
"Hurting her is the last thing I ever want to do."
"I'll get her to the roof when she comes back. That's where you two meet, isn't it?" He asked with a small smirk.
I nodded. "Thank you."
"One other thing, she seemed really down when she saw that girl at your door. As you know, she's usually a really happy and positive person. Today, she wasn't. Whatever you two have, it means something to her." Reid said before shutting the door in my face.
I went back to my place and changed into my swim my jammers before heading to the roof. I did a couple laps before I sat with my back against the pool wall. Before long, I swam down to the bottom where I sat. I don't know how long I was down there but eventually I looked up and saw someone standing by the edge of the pool.
I swam up to the surface to see Fi standing at the edge.
"I assume you're the reason why my brother wouldn't let me in the door unless I came up here." She said.
"Sorry about that." I said pulling myself out of the pool.
"It's fine. He said you wanted to talk to me."
"I do." I nodded.
"I'm listening." She said crossing her arms.
"About this morning..."
"This morning? Did something happen?" She asked.
I knew she was putting on an act. Acting like nothing happened. Like her and Reid didn't know about Quinn.
"Her name is Quinn."
"That's none of my business."
"And she-"
"Kai, really. It's your private life. You and me are....friends. You don't owe me an explanation. It's fine."
It wasn't fine. That much was obvious.
She went to walk past me to leave but I stopped her. I grabbed her arm and pulled her towards me so that her back was against my chest. She was short enough to where I could rest my chin comfortably on top of her head if I wanted to.
"What are you doing?" She asked, her breathing picking up.
"Making you listen to me." I said.
"Kai..." she said, trying to get away.
"No, listen to me."
"Fine."
She stopped trying to get free and held still.
"Quinn is my ex-girlfriend," I started which caused her to try to get away again. I held her tight against me and continued. "She came to see me yesterday after practice. She caught her boyfriend cheating and....wanted some advice. She ended up getting completely wasted and so I let her stay at my place. She threw up on her shirt and had to borrow one of mine. I wasn't home when you and Reid stopped by because I went for training. I thought she would leave shortly after I did, but I guess she didn't."
"Why'd she come to you for advice if she's your ex?" She asked softly.
"She cheated on me with my old teammate, Max. That's why we broke up. Max is the one she found cheating one her."
"That's ironic."
"Tell me about it. The real kicker is that she also slept with Carson a time or two."
"While you were dating?"
"Yeah."
"I'm sorry. You didn't deserve that."
"Can I ask you something?"
She nodded.
"Reid told me that seeing Quinn made you upset."
"That was a statement, not a question."
"Why? Why did it make you upset?"
"It didn't." She said.
Anyone else might've believed her. Not me though. The way I was holding her to me made it to where I could feel her pulse. I felt it pick up when she lied.
"You're lying." I whispered in her ear.
"I'm not." She argued.
"You are. Now tell me why."
"Let me go."
"No can do. Not until you tell me why."
We continued like that for another minute before she snapped.
"Because I like you. A lot. And I thought that maybe you liked me too. When Reid and I found Quinn at your door, it did make me upset. I know it's stupid because who could or would like a blind girl? I can't do everything others can. I don't even know what you look like. I'm not-"
Sensing that she wasn't going to shut up. I did the only thing I knew to do.
I kissed her.
