The buggy taking us through Nibel Mountains to get to Nibelheim broke down a few miles before we could reach the town. So now both Genesis and I are making the trek through the forest to reach our destination.
The night sky was calm, the air was serene, and the fire-flies fluttering about made the forest dream like. The melodies that the forest was performing for us, for a moment, made us forget about the evil in the world that we were trying to abolish. The ground was rocky and the incline was also not helpful as we made our way through the darkness, only the moon and the fire-flies as our source of light.
As our journey proceeded I cannot reiterate how clumsy I was, as I take a step over a tiny stream of water my footing slips. Preparing myself for a tumble Genesis catches me by my arm and chuckles at how graceless I was. How he teases and communicates with me, my demeanor towards him has come to ease. He actually has been very kind, nurturing, and has been a very good friend these past couple of weeks.
"Are you going to be ok?" He asks.
"What do you mean?" I question.
"Sephiroth is here -with Aerith, not that I mean anything by it...but those two, they have history." He states. He's now stopped walking and his eyes looking to me for an answer.
"It is what it is. I can't control how he is. I've been trying to contact him these past few months and he's never called back or reached out in any way. I've accepted the fact that I was just a moment for him." I answer.
"Y/N, he's...-it's more complicated than you think..." Genesis starts to explain but is cut off by a phone call.
He signals to start walking again and let's me know that we aren't too far away. He is in deep conversation with whomever is on the phone. From what I took from the conversation the other person was upset about something and Genesis, as he is, was being too stubborn to acknowledge it. Finally reaching the forest clearing we are greeted by the town entrance, which was dimly lit. Genesis grabs my bag and continues his long strides towards the Inn.
Once inside we were greeted by an elderly gentleman. It seemed like he knew exactly who we were, maybe because Genesis called for a reservation in advance. As we look over the check-in paperwork the entrance door gusts open. Genesis and I turn around abruptly as he positions himself in front of me in a protective stance. After realizing who it was he calmed himself but still kept his position in front of me.
Standing in front of us was Sephiroth. The light breeze coming into the lobby lightly swaying his hair. His eyes were intense and you could tell he was not happy. He first meets Genesis gaze his expression upset then he lays his mako eyes on me, his brows furrows even deeper and his expression intensifies. He takes a breathe in and starts to walk towards us.
Now both Generals are chest to chest and they are both exchanging conversation through their gazes. Genesis gives a light chuckle and turns his attention to me.
"Y/N, Do you want to stay here tonight?" He asks.
"Where else am I supposed to stay?" I inquire back, confused.
Genesis pauses before answering. He looks at me as if trying to tell me something with his eyes but I was not at the level where I can have conversations with gazes yet and then puts his attention to Sephiroth. He offers Sephiroth a sarcastic smile and then takes the two keys that the front desk clerk tried to hand to us and gives me one as he pockets the other. Genesis grabs my bag that was set on the floor earlier and turns my away. He gently places his hand on my back and guides me up the stairs. Before he releases his hold on me he turns back around to Sephiroth.
