POV: Virgil
Timeline: PresentTW: mentions of death
I sighed tiredly but relieved as i had finally finished my homework.
I stretch my arms and stood up, deciding that I should go ask mom on the subject of this so called "ability" that Logan had mentioned.
"Mom?" I called out. "Yeah Virge?" My mom replied from the living room, watching the TV. I walked over feeling a bit anxious, and sat beside her. "I-I've got s-s-something t-to as-sk," I stuttered. She looked at me, a soft frown plastered on her slim face. "Sure V but, are you alright? You're stuttering," she said softly. I shake my head, "I'm fine."
"I just wanna ask you about......uh......I.... uh," I stumbled on my words, then i felt a coldness on my all my anxiety gone in an instant, replaced by an odd feeling of emptiness and calmess. "I wanted to ask you about what my friend told me about. It's called 'abili'-" "Ability right?" My mom interrupted. I blink, "Uh, yeah."
She sighed and looked at me with a sad smile. "I knew this would happen eventually, I just didn't want it to happen," She said, defeated. "Why?" I ask. "That's for me to know, and for you to find out," she smiled softly. "Anyway, you want to ask about Ability right?" I nod my head, "Well, I already know about the basics. My friend told me that it appears when you turn 6. It develops along your attitude to fit it," I state. She smiles sweetly, "The attitude thing isn't that accurate and right, it develops along with your attitude, but not to fit it. I also think that he forgot one thing, is that it also runs on stamina."
"Stamina?" I ask. She nods slowly, "Yep, when you use it too much, you get tired and would get side effects aside from the tiredness. It depends on the user though."
I take the information in. But it raises another question, "Is it possible for someone to not get tired? 'Cause I know a friend who uses it constantly everyday and doesn't get tired at all," I lie. I want to know, but I can't let anyone know that I could see ghosts. "Well, maybe the effects are subtle. Does your friend get tired easily? Like there are eyebags under your friend's eyes?" She asks. "Actually, yeah. He does seem to get tired easily, always falls asleep in class," I said, nervously laughing. She smiled, "Then maybe that is the case."
I nod again, and silence blankets the atmosphere. After a few moments, I wanted to break it. "Mom, what was Dad's ability?" I ask nervously. She stopped, her eyes wide. She pauses for a long time, looking like she's trying her best not to cry.
"Your father's.......ability.....is..." she said sadly. "His ability allows him to remember everything, despite how hard he tries to forget. It was a blessing, and a curse," she said. "How is it a curse?" I said. She went silent.
"That power is the reason to why your father died."
