Cassidy had been sitting on the couch in the living area with her legs pulled up to her chest as she stared down at her journal on the coffee table in an attempt to decide what to write about. She thought she could write about how she's felt about the past few days, but she wasn't exactly sure how to get started with getting it written down so she only stared at the blank pages on the journal.
She had heard distant footsteps that soon were in the living area but she hadn't take her eyes off of the journal as she awaited for the words to possibly start writing themselves. She wondered if they would do that if she had waited long enough.
The owner to the footsteps sat down on the middle cushion next to her as they looked from her empty journal to her curled up body.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm great," she immediately answered as she turned her head over to see who exactly had joined her. Her boyfriend's brother, her best friend. She had kinda been hoping it would have been her boyfriend but she knew he wasn't there at the moment so she hadn't been sure why she let her hopes get up. She had wondered exactly where he had gone for the day and if it had been important.
"How long have you been trying to write?" He gestured his head toward the blank book sitting on the coffee table. She pulled her eyes away from his as she looked back down at her blank lined paper.
"All morning," she admitted. "When I woke up and he was gone."
"You know he is just trying to find a way to protect all of us. He's doing something noble for once," he chuckled lightly the thought of his brother, Damon Salvatore, pulling a noble act for his closest friends and family. She only chewed on her lip as she brought her legs closer to her chest.
Two Days Earlier
The front door of the Salvatore Boarding House had been thrown open violently as the woman from the Christmas Party had swiftly made her way inside the parlor where the trio plus Avery and Caroline had shot up from there seats playing a game of charades since they had nothing better to do that night. Avery had been the first to notice this woman but before she could protest or reach for a weapon, Cassidy had been slung back from the group against a wall with her feet off the ground.
Avery acted fast by grouping the fire poker and had started running toward the strange woman; however, the woman had stopped Avery by using a force of her own to throw Avery over toward the bar where she landed on the glasses of bourbon and rolling off with a groan escaping her lips.
As Cassidy had been held against the wall, she began feeling a tight feeling around her throat that made her eyes go wide as she caught herself begin gasping for air. Stefan looked over to his best friend seeing the pained expression on her face as her fingers tried scratching at the wall to be free.
"Stop," the youngest Salvatore looked toward the new obvious witch angrily that she was hurting his friends. Avery's hand slapped down on the top of the bar as she used it to support herself off of the ground having little cuts over her face. The new witch had only given Stefan a kind smile as she waltzed over to Cassidy, running her slim, bony finger over the young vampire's face as she enjoyed the suffering sounds coming from her.
"Caroline, dear could you bring me a fire poker," the witch said calmly and Caroline felt this force over take her that she couldn't stop from doing what she had been told.
"Car — Caroline!" Cassidy choked out as she looked at her other best friend in horror.
"I'm not trying!" Caroline cried out not wanting to do what she had been told but she couldn't stop herself. This witch had been powerful and the free ones could heavily see that as she took the fire poker from Caroline.
