CHAPTER 3

“What are you doing here?” Alex asked stumbling to put on some pants.

“I could ask you two the same thing.”

Faith slid past Adrian and disappeared into the living room. “Adrian, seriously. The hell?”

“Mama called you twice earlier but you didn’t answer. She told me to see if you were at the pent house. And I see you had a good time,” he said looking into the living room at Faith sitting on the couch uncomfortably.

“I’m fine. Look, go ahead and leave. I’ll call mama on the way out.”

Adrian scoffed and walked to the living room and sat across from Faith. “Hey.”

       “Hello.”

“So we’re back to cold greetings even after ten years?”

       “Adrian, don’t start.”

“Alright,” he backed off. “So how are you?”

       “Fine,” she said bitterly.

“Well I’m doing fine too. Having fun being with the Falcons.”

Faith gave him a cold stare. In her mind was negative memories she had with Adrian.

“Look, Faith. I ain’t come to cause trouble. Can we just squash this?”

“Oh, you mean like you ‘squashed’ my best friend back then?”

“In my defense, Karen was a hoe,” Adrian bluntly said. “How about a truce? Would you like to visit on Thursday? It’s my last day before I go out to play New Orleans.”

       “I’ll think about it.”

“Well,” Adrian started while writing his number on a napkin and handing it to Faith. “Hit me up if you decide to drop by. Bye.”

Faith stared at the door as it shut behind Adrian. Alex’s presence snapped her out of a trance as he slammed the bedroom door behind him.

       “You cool?”

“Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be?” Faith lied.

                           _______________

Faith laid in her bed almost half sleep thinking about today’s events. In the car to her house, Alex asked Faith if they could make it official. It seemed fast with them only have reunited less than a week ago, but she could see a future with Alex. But then there was Adrian. If she was going to be with Alex, she had to see Adrian even more. She needed to make closure with both herself and Adrian. In a power of will, Faith text the number he gave with a simple verification of her presence on Thursday.

On Thursday, Faith stood at the door checking last minute things. Adrian opened the door with a smile. “Glad you made it.”

       “You lucky I even came.”

Adrian made a cat noise as he closed the door. “Well it’s not like I forced you Ms. Texting At 11 In The Evening.”

She sat on a couch with a sigh of relief. “So you and Connie decided on a date yet?” Faith joked.

“Not here to talk weddings,” Adrian said, apparently not hearing the joke past the question.”

“So what are we here to discuss?”

Adrian sat down next to here with 2 glasses of wine from the built in bar. “Us.”

       “What?”

“I know you need closure and so do I.”

Faith took a sip of her wine and looked at Adrian. “You’re getting married to Connie. What closure do you need?”

“This,” Adrian softly said kissing Faith softly.

She pushed him away and stared at him like he was crazy. “Adrian. What about Alex and Connie? Did you forget about them?”

“Let me just have one hour with you and we won’t mention it again.”

       “Promise?”

       “Promise.”

“I still don’t-” Faith started before getting interrupted by Adrian’s kisses. She allowed herself to go into a trance back into the past and what could have been hers.

An hour later, Faith got dressed and looked around for her purse. She found it and quietly stood in Adrian’s bedroom. He grabbed her waist and kissed her once more.

“You do realize soon as I leave, I’m going to pretend this never happened.”

“Go ahead. A deal is a deal,” Adrian smiled.
