Wondering along the quiet street of your small village, you found a man with longish brown hair, a nice suit and bow tie, sitting, staring at a cup on his table.
You wanted to walk by, not intervene, but the look on his face was a look you had seen all to many times, so you slowly walked over. Knocking on the table twice, you watched him jump and his gaze turn to you, eyes going from sad to curious.
"Hello." He smiled.
"Hello sir, do you mind if I have a seat?"
The mystery man pondered this for a second before shaking his head with a wild smile.
"Not at all! Nothing wrong with a bit of company!"
You sat down and ordered a cup of tea, silence over fell you both as you waited, and when your drink arrived your drank it silently, both of you observing on another.
"What's your name?" You asked.
"People call me the doctor, not sure why? What do they call you?"
"What's on your mind?" You asked.
"Pardon?"
Setting your cup down, you folded one leg over the other and leant back.
"What's on your mind?"
"Why would anything be on my mind?"
"I've seen that look many times, it's the look of someone's who's lost, alone, sad."
The doctor said nothing and you offered a warm smile, tilting your head to gaze at the grey sky before turning to look into his green eyes, searching them for a moment.
"Why are you asking?"
"Sometimes, just sometimes, it's better to talk to someone you don't know. Throw me a bone, I might be able to help."
The doctor smiled a little and picked up his drink, taking a small sip before lowering the cup.
"Alright then. I fear I may have made choices, bad choices, ones that I could have made different. If I had made better choices things would have ended differently, I'm not entirely sure I'm even doing the right thing anymore."
You hummed in thought.
"Bad things happen, it's part of life."
The man smiled sadly.
"Be things seem to follow me around, no matter where I go bad things happen, I hurt people or I can't save people."
You leant forward and placed your elbows on the table, resting our head in your palm, you gave him a lazy smile.
"You can't save everyone."
"But I'm supposed to! I.. I have to!"
You didn't let his outburst bother you, you could hear all the pent up frustration and sadness behind his voice.
"That's a burden no one could carry, believe me doctor, you can't save everyone."
The doctor said nothing and lowered his gaze. Reaching out, you placed your hand on his causing him to look up, and you smiled sweetly at him.
"We all have pasts. We all made choices that maybe weren't the best ones. None of us completely innocent, but we get a fresh start every day to be a better person than we were yesterday."
He opened his mouth, then closed it, resembling a fish gasping for air and You laughed quietly.
"I believe that you don't give yourself enough credit, instead of focusing on the bad, focus on the good and learn from the bad."
"You're right, you're absolutely right!"
His face brightened and so did yours. Pulling out some money you left it on the table and stood up, offering him a half wave before you started to walk away, only to be spun back around the stranger beaming at you.
"What's your name?!"
"(Y/N), (Y/N) (L/N)."
"Thank you for everything (Y/N), thank you so much. If there's anything I could ever do for you, just let me know."
"How will I do that?" You laughed.
"Just wish!" He winked before running away
