You lay in bed, drowning in your thoughts. You were honored that the team had sworn to look out for you no matter what, but it didn't feel right to put them at risk when Zarkon was following you.
You remembered earlier this evening there had been a few alternate conclusions. Shiro had suggested that Zarkon could be following them through the Black Lion, due to his connection to it, but Coran cancelled that theory out, saying that it was only possible if he was nearby. Allura mentioned that it might be her, due to Sendak's fleet finding them right after she awoke on Arus. That was struck out too, as Pidge and Shiro had discovered in the wreckage of his warship that he was onto them from the start, with no help from Zarkon. Even Keith came in with a quip, saying Zarkon was tracking him. But the only evidence he had for that was when he clashed in battle with him and may have imprinted on him somehow. None of these theories were enough to free you from the burden of being Zarkon's tracking device.
Eventually, the topic drifted off to a planet called Taujeer, where some more aliens were in need of help. It was a good distraction, but it would only be a matter of time before Zarkon sniffed you out again.
Finally, unable to stand it, you made a decision: you would leave the Castle and the team and lead Zarkon away. You hated to desert them like this, and it would be scary being out in space all alone, but you hated putting the team through such trouble even more, especially after the lengths they went to protect you.
Sitting up and slipping out of bed, you grabbed your spirit guide uniform and packed a few things. As you were out the door, you heard a soft snort from Shiro, still fast asleep in bed. Your eyes drooped in sadness. One of the hardest things about your plan was leaving your adoptive father behind. But, like he had back on Earth, you were leaving for his own good. He would be safer this way.
Leaning over slightly, you planted a goodbye kiss on his cheek, knowing it would be your last moment between father and daughter. Then, whisking away your tears, you dashed out the door with your belongings in toe.
...
You glanced around the pod hangar to make sure no one was in sight. Seeing that the coast was clear, you grabbed the edge of the nearest pod and hoisted yourself up. You were just looking over the piloting manual and trying to interpret the Altean letters when you heard a grunt of effort from below. Confused, you looked up to find the origin of the noise, only to be met by a larger bag. You let out a yelp of surprise as it flattened you.
"Huh? Wait a minute...(Y/N)? What are you doing here?"
You pushed the bag off of you, wondering if the impact was making you hear things or if someone was actually talking to you. You peered over the side of the pod to find Keith in full paladin armor. He looked genuinely shocked to find you here.
Lowering your head, you tried to play if off by claiming to get lost again.
Keith bent a suspicious eyebrow. "Inside of a pod?"
Caught red-handed, you sighed and slipped out, explaining your plan to Keith and sternly insisting that you weren't going to be stopped.
Keith only shook his head in reply. "Who said anything about stopping you? Lucky for you, I had the same theory, and I think we could accomplish more together than we could apart."

The next morning, the team gathered on the bridge and got to their seats. "We should be entering Taujeer's orbit soon," Coran announced to the others.
"Raise the particle barrier and scan for Galra," Shiro ordered. As the others carried out the order, he couldn't help but notice that there were two empty seats. "...Where are Keith and (Y/N)?"
