"Talk?" Mr. Choi rolled his eyes, "What is there to talk about son? He used you and then when you gave him another chance he avoided you."
"He only stopped hanging out with me because you," Soobin glared at his father. Mr. Choi stayed silent as he stopped the car at a red light, which caused Soobin to push together his brows in frustration, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
"It was for your own good."
"For my own good? Didn't we already have a conversation about you trusting me?" Soobin shook his head in disbelief, "Why are you still treating me like a child?" Mr. Choi didn't notice that the light turned green until the car behind them honked at him and Mr. Choi stepped on the gas a bit too hard. Mr. Choi could feel his blood began to boil as images of his ex wife's crying face flashed in his head. He can't have Soobin experience the same pain she did. "Answer me."
"It's because you're acting like a child!" Mr. Choi snapped at him, "You can't always get what you-"
"No Dad! You're acting like a child!" Soobin has never raised his voice at his dad and felt instant regret as Mr. Choi's stare pierced through him. "I'm so-sorry," Soobin's bottom lip began to quiver, "It's just- he really really makes me-me happy and you're not being fair! It's not fair!"
"Life's not fair kiddo."
Soobin couldn't find the right words to say and kept quiet as he tried to fight back his tears. They never fight like this. Soobin just wanted to have a nice talk with his dad about the issue but then he yelled at him about being a child and Soobin couldn't help but let his anger get the best of him.
Mr. Choi could tell how upset his son was with him. He would glance over to Soobin every few minutes and could see that his eyes were filled up with tears. Mr. Choi feels really bad about yelling at him like that, but he'd rather his son be mad at him for a few days instead of getting his heart broken later.
When they pulled in the garage Mr. Choi turned off the car and was about to get out until he noticed that Soobin wasn't moving, "Are you coming?"
Soobin shook his head.
Mr. Choi frowned as he leaned back in his seat, "I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier."
Soobin shrugged his shoulders.
"Don't be like that," Mr. Choi reached over and lightly ruffled Soobin's hair, "You know why I'm doing this. I don't want him to hurt you."
Soobin pushed his dad's hand away from him, "And so what if he does?" Mr. Choi gave him a look of confusion as he waited for Soobin to finish explaining himself. "Let's say you're right and he's only using me and he breaks my heart one day. Why does it matter?"
"Because I don't want you to have to go through that sort of pain," Mr. Choi shook his head.
"Why? Is it because I'm still a child?" Soobin could feel his body tense up, "Everybody goes through breakups because it's part of growing up! Why are you scolding me for being a 'child' when you're the one who won't let me grow up?"
Mr. Choi chuckled.
"Why are you laughing?" Soobin shot him a death glare, "I'm being serious."
"I know, it's just I really put my foot in my mouth, didn't I?"
Soobin scoffed, "You think?"
"Can you blame me though? You're my only child and it's just hard to see you grow up so fast," Mr. Choi sheepishly smiled at Soobin. Soobin crossed his arms with a sulky expression on his face. "How about we make a compromise?"
