"What would you like for breakfast?" he asked me. "Pancakes maybe" I answered his question. He nodded and we went to IHOP. After we had breakfast we drove to the doctor's office uptown.
The small complex was very neat. A secretary sat at the front desk.
"Goodmorning, do you have an appointment?" she asked politely.
"Yes we do, Mr. Adam's" he told her. She checked something on her computer screen and smiled at us.
"I'll page Dr. Stennett, she'll be just a minute" the secretary told us. We nodded at her and went to take a seat.
A small middle aged woman exit a room and came to face us. She wore a white doctor's coat so I assumed this was the doctor.
"Anthony, how lovely to see you again. Follow me please" she said and reentered the room. We followed her into the medium sized room. With it's white interior and cool air conditioning, it was quite comfy.
"Nice to meet you Ms. Sullivan. I'd like to run a couple tests before we start the process ok" I nodded at her and she came over to me.
She wrapped a blood pressure checking machine around my arm and started the machine. It started to tighten before it clicked and started to deflate. She wrote something on a clipboard before removing the contraption from my arm.
"I'm going to draw some blood ok" she said, asking for permission to proceed. I nodded again.
"I need verbal confirmation dear" she said. "Yes you may go ahead" I spoke. I bit my bottom lip as she stuck the needle in the vein in my arm. She pulled out a good amount before sticking the other arm and getting some more.
She placed them into vials and I now noticed the secretary stood at the door. "Please have these expressed for me" she said and the lady nodded before exiting the room.
"Ms. Sullivan I would like if you could give me a urine sample please?" she handed me a cup and showed me to the bathroom.
I felt a bit embarrassed but realized Anthony had left the room to speak on his phone the same time the secretary left.
I went to the bathroom and did my business before washing my hands and giving the cup to the doctor. I noticed that she took a syringe and drew up some of the urine, dropping the content unto a pregnancy test. With the remainder of urine she placed a strip into the urine.
It changed colours and she held it up against a colour coded piece of paper.
She wrote down something on the clipboard.
"I'm going to retrieve the test results for your blood work, if you could please get dressed in this while I'm away, that would be lovely" she told me, handing me a hospital gown.
She left the room and I couldnt resist the urge to look at what she has been writing down. I took a peek but this did no good, because it was all in medical terms, something I had no idea of.
I quickly got dressed into the gown and put my clothes neatly to the side of the bed.
"Ok, good news Ms. Sullivan. Your blood sugar level is excellent. You dont have high blood pressure or any infections. You're not pregnant and you blood count is exceptional. You're as healthy as a horse" she smiled.
That was good news. I hadn't had a check up in over a year.
"Now, I would like for you to sign this paper before we get started", she handed me the paper to sign. I placed my signature on the thin black line.
No turning back now.
"Great, could you please remove your underwear and sit on this chair please?" she turned and entered a small room that was ensuite.
I did as told.
She rolled around two small pedals and I placed my feet on them. I was completely open for the world to see. Ok, that was a bit extra, but that's how I felt.
She declined the chair to the position necessary for the procedure to be done. "Now this wont hurt honey, it'll be over before you know it. "I felt her wipe my private area with a sanitized piece of material, a wipes maybe, before she held up a syringe.
"Ok here I go" she said.
I winced as I felt her place the syringe into my lower area and squeeze the contents into me.
"Now there was really no turning back" I though to myself.
She wiped again before standing up.
"That's it darling. I'll give you a date to come back in two weeks for a check up ok" she told me.
After I got dressed there was a knock on the door. The doctor looked over to me and I nodded. "Come in" she called.
Anthony entered and looked at us.
"Here's a prescription. It's really just vitamin supplements" she handed me the prescription.
"I hope all goes well. That is all for today" she said to us.
We thanked her before leaving the building.
"Elly, are you ok?" Anthony asked, looking at me with a soft smile.
"Yes I am, I cant believe I just did that" I answered and said the last part mostly to myself, although he heard it clearly.
"I really do appreciate this. I cant thank you enough. Now here are your paperwork. I was talking to my assistant while I was outside.
This is your banking information" he gave me the folder. I looked it over and saw that there was a bank statement inside. $100,000.
I cant believe this is actually happening.
"Its just 2:00, what do you think about house hunting?" he smiled at me. I blushed, not used to this kind of treatment, especially from a man.
I nodded shyly.
He started the car. "Elly, I want you to be comfortable around me, ok. No need to be bashful or shy" he said to me.
I took a deep breath and nodded at him.
He exit the building and as I looked at the building in the rearview mirror one thought came to mind.
I'm gonna be a mom!
