"eddie?!" i screamed, before tackling him to the ground.
he screamed, and curled in on himself. for a moment we both laid on the concrete sidewalk, before he finally opened his eyes.
     "r-richie?" he sniffled.
i tried not to get lost in his soft brown eyes, or stare too long at his soft pink lips, so i spoke.
"eddie! you were walking  the middle of the road!" i cried. "did you not see that car flying around the curve!?"
he began sobbing. hard. "n-no- i d-didn't, i'm sorry," he wailed.
frankly, i was shocked. i had never seen eddie cry. my heart instantly broke.
i sat up and pulled him into my lap and wrapped my arms around him. he crossed his arms tightly across his stomach, but leaned into me.
"are you ok?" i asked, after an antagonizing moment of listening to his sobs.
he let out a shuddery gasp, but nodded. "yeah-yeah i'm fine. i should get going."
he went to slide out of my grip, but i tightened my arms around him.
"eds, i think you need to stay with me tonight," i told him gently.
     "why?" he sniffled.
"you're covered in dirt and scratches kid. your momma would have a fit if she saw you," i told him.
a new wave of tears flooded his eyes  at the mention of his mother, and he began to sob again.
i just held him. i rested my chin on the top of his head, and gently rocked back and forth.
"let's get you inside," i eventually told him.
he sniffled, but got to his feet. i wrapped my arm around his shoulder, but he still kept his wrapped tightly around himself.
i led him up into my bathroom, and began to run him a hot bath.
he leaned against the wall; i noticed how shaky his legs seemed, and worried he'd collapse before i could get him in the tub.
Finally, the tub was filled. i turned to eddie.
"can i take your shirt off?" i asked him gently.
he shook his head no. "i can do it 'chee," he whispered raggedly, but he made no movements.
"just let me take off your shirt-"
"no! n-no, i can do it." he cleared his throat. "sorry."
i walked over to his, and cupped his face in my hands. "please let me help you."
tears welled up in his eyes, and he squeezed them together tightly. "you're gonna he so mad at me richie," he whimpered.
"no, no, eds," i reassured him. "i could never be mad at you!"
with a shaky breath, the relaxed his arms and placed his arms at his sides.
i gasped before i could process what was going on. eddie's arms were littered with deep cuts, some old and faded, but some were fresh, barely scabbed over.
"eddie what did you do?!" i cried.
he slid down the wall, and collapsed in on himself. "y-you promised you wouldn't be m-mad," he sobbed.
reality hit me. "no, no, eddie, baby, i'm not mad." i sank to my knees beside him, and wrapped him in my arms. "i'm sorry. i'm sorry, eds."
he collapsed in my grasp, and i ran my fingers through his dark hair. after a few minutes, his sobs faded.
"let's get you in the bath before the water gets cold, ok?" i asked.
he nodded, and i lifted his shirt over his head.
i swallowed the bile that rose in my throat when i saw his torso.
"does your mom still hit you?" i asked shakily.
     "yeah..."
i could tell he didn't want to talk about it, so i dropped the subject. "give me your shorts too, i'll throw them in the laundry."
he turned away from me, and slid them down. i looked away, blushing madly.
he handed them to me. "thank you," he murmured.
i nodded, and left him to himself.
as i was placing his clothes in the washing machine, a spot on the back of eddie's shorts that caught my eye. it looked like blood, but that was stupid.
unless-
i scrambled back up the stairs, and slid into the bathroom.
     "eddie!" i cried.
he flinched at my voice, and splashed water across the floor. "yes?" he asked timidly.
     "what happened?!"
"what do you mean?" his voice shook. he knew that i knew.
"eddie, there was blood on the back of your shorts!"
a small sob escaped his throat, but he tried to play it off as a cough. "so? so what?"
"just talk to me eddie, please!" i begged him.
"fine, richie! henry bowers chases me into the woods, hit me, took my shorts off, and-and h-he-"
he broke into sobs, and my stomach dropped. even after the past three years, henry still wasn't done with terrorizing us.
"come on eds, let's get you in bed ok?"
he nodded though his tears, and i began to drain the tub. he stood up, and i handed him a fluffy towel.
i walked him into my room, and gave him the smallest pair of sweatpants i owned and my largest t shirt.
"holler at me when you're done, ok? i'll come back in."
he nodded, and i stepped outside in the hallway, but after five minutes of complete silence, i rushed back in.
eddie laid curled up in the fetal position, trying to muffle his sobs with his hands.
i rushed to his side, and placed my hand on his shoulder. he flinched and sobbed harder.
"it's ok eds, it's ok. i'm right here, baby-" why did i just call him baby "-i'm right here."
"i-i'm sorry rich-chee," he gasped between sobs.
i drug him onto my lap, and cradled him in my arms. "don't you dare fucking apologize. there is nothing to be sorry for."
i rubbed his back, and he laid his head on my shoulder. i tilted his back to where i was looking down at him, and he was looking up at me.
he blinked up at me, and i brushed the tears off his cheeks.
"are you ready for bed?" i asked him gently.
"will you stay with me?" he asked quickly. "please?"
"of course, i would never leave you, ok?"
he nodded. "then yes. i am ready for bed."
i chuckled quietly, and picked him up. i sat him in my bed, then pulled the blankets up around him.
     "'chee?" he asked me quietly.
"yes honey?" i mentally slapped myself again.
"can you leave the lamp on tonight? please?"
     "of course eds, anything."
"thank you," he mumbled, before curling up and closing his eyes.
i flicked the lamp on before turning off the main light. i slid into bed beside eddie, and he cuddled up beside in an instant. i wrapped my arm around his shaking frame.
"it's ok, ed- baby, i won't let anybody touch you ever again. i swear on my life."
