based off a true story from when my grandma was a teenager in the pov of eddie ;)

the following day, after everybody got a good nights rest, they lathered up in sunscreen and headed for the beach.
it was a short walk away. bev chose the "perfect spot" which happened to be right in beside the life guards stand.
nobody had to say it. eddie and stan were both weak swimmers, and eddie had an uncanny reoccurrence of getting stuck in riptides.
eddie was still lathering sunscreen on as the rest of the losers ran straight into the ocean. bev had a moment of pity and turned back to help eddie.
"bev, you're a super pale person," eddie lectured as bev sprayed sunscreen on his back. "if you get burnt, you can get sun cancer!"
bev rolled her eyes. "i know eddie. you tell me. all the time," she chuckled.
eddie groaned. "i don't want my friends to die bev!"
bev has to bite back a laugh. "none of us are going to die eddie," she told him gently, softly punching him in the shoulder. then, she took off running. "i'll race ya to the water!"
hey!" eddie yelled, taking off after her. "no fair!"
the two ran into the freezing water, goosebumps immediately covering their skin. still, they dived into the next wave before it could break on top of them. eddie came up gasping.
bev shook her red hair out of her face, grinning wildly at eddie. "come on!" she called out as she began to swim out to where the rest of the losers were.
"bev, i can't stand out here," eddie told her as his head slipped under the water. he pushed himself back up, only to realize that she had already swam off to the rest of the losers.
he wasn't a strong swimmer, but he didn't want to spend the day alone, so he swam out to them.
it was so deep, even richie, the tallest of the seven, could barely stand. eddie had to tread the water, and was struggling to stay afloat.
none of the others seemed to take notice to this.
as the teens spent more time in the water, the undertow slowly pulled them out farther and farther from the shore. eddie was really struggling to stay afloat by this time. his chest was tight and he was constantly slipping under the water.
he could hear bill and richie exclaim something loudly, and eddie's six friends quickly dunked themselves under the water. he looked up confusedly, only to see a huge wave.
it broke right over him; he didn't have time to take a breath.
he was shoved roughly under the water. he gasped and water filled his lungs.
he flailed around wildly, but he was unsure which way was up. he was choking and crying, salt water burning his eyes.
a pair of strong, sturdy arms wrapped around him, pulling him out of the water.
eddie, still spluttering, blinked the water out of his eyes, only to come face to face with a very attractive life guard.
eddie looked down, a blush creeping across his face.
"are you ok?" the lifeguard asked him worriedly, flipping his blond hair out of his eyes.
eddie was fighting back tears. this was so fucking embarrassing.
he nodded his head as the lifeguard began to carry him out of the water.
he could feel the eyes of almost everybody on the beach pointed directly at him.
eddie's heart tightened and he bit down on his lip roughly. the lifeguard sat him down at the losers blanket, and left eddie alone.
richie ran up to him, the rest of the losers trailing behind him.
richie knelt down in front of eddie, cupping his face. a few tears escaped eddie's eyes and he let out a weak sniffle.
"are you ok baby? i'm so sorry, you should've told me you couldn't stand," richie scolded him gently.
anger welled up inside eddie, and he let out a soft sob. "i did!" he cried pathetically.
richie mistook it as an embarrassed sob, and quickly pulled eddie into a hug.
eddie was too disoriented to pull away.
"do you wanna go back to the hotel?" richie asked him quietly.
eddie nodded his head vigorously.
the smaller boy grabbed his towel and threw it over his head before stalking away.
richie turned back to the rest of his friends. "you guys stay here. have fun. eddie needs some time to calm down," richie told them.
they nodded along.
"call us if you need us," mike told him, and richie flashed him a thumbs up before running to catch up with eddie.
they walked in silence to the hotel, minus eddie's sniffles. eddie trailed a few steps ahead, and richie thought it best to not crowd him.
they walked into the room; eddie began shuffling through his back, grabbing his pajamas then walking to the bathroom.
richie watched him silently, unsure of what to say.
eddie slammed the bathroom door and turned on the shower before stripping from his bathing suit and stepping in.
he began sobbing again, trying to be quiet, but richie could still hear him.
with a sigh, richie stood up and quietly stepped into the bathroom.
     "eds," he whispered softly.
     "y-yeah?" he sniffled.
     "are you ok?"
eddie didn't answer. he was embarrassed and angry; he just wanted to sleep and forget today.
richie pulled the shower curtain back, stepping into the tub.
eddie looked at him with wide eyes. "what the hell do you think you're doing?" he cried, too shocked to continue crying.
"i'm making sure my boyfriend is ok," richie explained.
"you're dressed. and in the shower..." eddie said, raising his eyebrows.
richie shrugged before pulling eddie into a hug. eddie hesitated, but eventually melted into his grasp.
eddie started crying again, and richie held him tightly, running his fingers through eddie's soaked hair.
"i tr-tried to tell you," eddie whispered meekly.
    "what?" richie asked.
"i tried to tell you that i c-couldn't stand," eddie sobbed.
richie's heart dropped. "oh eds," he breathed, guilt washing over him. "i'm so sorry!"
eddie shrugged. "it's too late now," he mumbled.
"will- can you forgive me?" richie asked him worriedly.
eddie looked up at him with watery, red eyes. "of course richie. you know i could never stay mad at you." he gave richie a small smile.
richie relaxed. "thank you baby." he pressed his lips to eddie's forehead gently.
"go on and get out. let me get finished and dressed. ok?"
richie nodded and hopped out of the shower, seating himself on the sink counter to wait for eddie.
once eddie was done and finished drying off, he slipped into his pajamas.
richie lead him by the hand over to their bed, before he too slipped into his pajamas and then into bed beside eddie.
"did you get hurt?" richie asked gently after snuggling eddie for a few silent minutes.
eddie shook his head. "i was just embarrassed..."
eddie sniffled and buried his face in richie's chest.
"i'm sorry baby boy, i should've stayed closer to shore with you. i don't know what got into me," richie breathed.
"it's ok," eddie mumbled sleepily. "i'm not mad anymore."
richie nodded, guilt still eating at him. he was so wrapped up in his own thoughts he hadn't even realized eddie fell asleep.
he smiled softly at his sleeping boyfriend before he too closed his eyes, sleep washing over him.
