eddie sank to his bedroom floor almost trancelike. large tears rolled down his cheeks at an alarming rate.
he couldn't do this anymore. he didn't want to do this anymore.
all his friends were gone. they had moved away to have a better life. one that wasn't in derry. one that didn't include eddie.
none of them had contacted him, even though they promised they would.
eddie thought back of the day richie moved away. he'd linked his pinkie finger with eddie's, promising- no, swearing- that he'd keep in touch.
that had been nearly three months ago; he'd been the last of eddie's friends to leave. and eddie missed him more than anything.
the asthmatic boy muffled his sobs with cupped hands, dreading the moment his mother heard his soft cries and came to investigate.
she constantly told him he was stupid. that if richie really wanted to talk to him, he would.
those words completely shattered eddie. richie didn't love eddie like he loved richie.
he sat now on his bedroom floor, shaking with sobs and breathing shallowly. he scooted over to his bed, opening the top drawer of the dresser that sat next to it.
he fumbled around for a minute, then finally producing the bottle of sleeping pills.
he stared at them longingly for a moment before a rage overtook him. he chucked the white bottle across the room; the cap popped off and the pills scattered everywhere.
he let out a small scream, thrusting his fist into the metal bed frame multiple times.
he finally stopped when he began to choke on his sobs. he pulled his fists towards his chest in shock.
his knuckles were busted and bloody and his hands shook terribly. he sat back against the wall, letting his eyes slip closed.

richie sat on the bus, tapping his foot to the beat of queen impatiently. he was finally getting to see eddie after three months.
he'd paid for a bus ticket with his own money, and even though he was traveling cross-country, his parents felt that he was mature enough to make a fourteen hour bus ride alone.
besides, he was seventeen. richie was almost an adult, he could do this.
the bus driver came on over the radio. "this is the last stop before derry, maine." his voice crackled and popped with static over the worn radio. "there's just an hour and a half left."
richie leaned his head back, smiling, and closed his eyes.
he awoke just over an hour and a half later to the bus driver shaking his shoulder.
"last stop kid. off the bus you go." somehow, his voice was even dryer and rattlier in person.
richie blinked the grogginess out of his eyes before he leapt to his feet. eddie, he was finally able to see his eddie spaghetti.
"sorry- i mean thanks?" he mumbled quickly, grabbing his bag and rushing off the bus.
richie found himself standing in the middle of main street. his home. he couldn't help the wild grin that spread across his face.
he took in a deep breath of the fresh, clean air, sighing giddily. then he took off at a fast jog towards eddie's house.
his heart pounded harder with each step he took. he was finally going to see his eddie.
he walked up to the front of eddie's house, peering through the living room window. sonja kaspbrak was leaned back in her recliner, snoring loud enough for richie to hear her through the glass.
richie pumped his fists in delight before sneaking around to the back of the house. he stooped down and grabbed a handful of pebbles, and began to chuck them at eddie's window.

eddie's head perked up as the third plunk sounded from his window. he rubbed his eyes sleepily, before pushing himself to his feet and stumbling over to his window.
he laid eyes on richie. eddie clapped both his hands over his mouth, muffling what sounded like a half-scream, half-sob. he stumbled backwards to his bed, plopping down heavily as more tears poured down his face.
richie richie richie his mind buzzed. richie was there. with him.
eddie, still sobbing, scrambled from his bed and ran down the stairs at a breakneck speed and out the front door.
he rounded the corner to where richie stood, barreling into the taller boy and knocking them both down.
"hiya eds!" richie cried, wrapping his arms tightly around eddie as they laid on the ground.
eddie sobbed into richie's chest, barely managing words. "you-you're h-here!"
"eds, easy bubs. take a breath. yes, i'm here. now please just calm down."
eddie nodded, but continued sobbing harshly. "i c-can't," he eventually wailed.
richie sat up, cradling eddie in his arms. "shh, it's ok. it's ok eds. i'm right here, we're ok. everything's ok. i missed you so much."
eddie, with his face pressed into richies chest, finally managed to speak. "i missed you too. more than anything."
eddie's eyelids slowly sank closed. "please don't leave me 'chee," he murmured before sleep washed over him.
"i wouldn't dream of it bubs," richie whispered, tightening his grip on the smaller boy.
he smiled down at eddie, shocked to feel tears of his own welling up in his eyes. richie sniffled and buried his face in eddie's soft, fluffy hair.
richie sat with the sleeping eddie for a half hour, until the sun started to set and the wind began picking up.
he scooped eddie up into his arms and carried the smaller boy up the stairs and into his bedroom.
richie gasped and nearly dropped him when he saw the state of eddie's room.
eddie, jolted awake suddenly, glanced nervously up at richie. "what's wrong?" he asked shakily.
"what happened?" richie asked, setting eddie on the bed, staring at the pills scattered across his room.
eddie glanced down, rubbing the back of his neck. "i was sad..."
"so you were going to overdose?" richie cried, accusation rising in his voice.
eddie squeezed his eyes shut and shrugged his shoulders. "i missed you," he admitted.
richie slowly sat down beside him, wrapping one arm across eddie's shoulders, wrapping the fingers of his other hand reassuringly around eddie's wrist.
"i missed you too bubs, but i don't want you to hurt yourself. ok?"
eddie sniffled and nodded, leaning into richie's side. "i'm sorry," he murmured.
"shh," richie breathed. "everybody's ok now. i'm here and your safe. that's all that matters."
eddie nodded tiredly. "you're right. thanks 'chee."
"of course. now go back to sleep. i'll be right here when you wake up."
     "promise?" eddie breathed.
richie gently pushed eddie on his back, pulling the blankets up around him and kissing his forehead. "yes eds, i promise."
eddie smiled softly. "love you 'chee. g'night."
"i love you too eddie spaghetti," richie whispered, snuggling into the bed beside eddie. "sleep tight."
