this low key reminds me of a fic i read and i can't remember what it is so partial cred to the author

bill wiped his forehead on the sleeve of his flannel before he continued to pitch his, stanley's, and mike's tent for the next three nights.
ben and bev had made the most progress; they were almost done.
eddie and richie on the other hand, had made very little progress. richie had managed to tangle himself up in the rope, and eddie was struggling to get the boy untangled.
stanley and mike, who had gone back to the car to get the coolers, sat it down quickly and ran over to help.
together, they all got richie untangled, and they worked together as a team to pitch the tent.
"thanks guys," eddie muttered as he stood up from the ground, brushing the dirty off his jeans. he shot richie a glare. "but not you."
richie scoffed. "and why's that luva boy?" he asked in one of his many terrible accents.
eddie cringed. "because i could've gotten that tent pitched in the time it took us to untangle you by myself."
richie raised an eyebrow. "zat so luv?"
eddie groaned aloud. "stop talking trash mouth!" he cried.
richie began to giggle, and soon eddie joined in.
"oh richie, no matter how annoying you are, i'll never stop loving you," eddie promised.
richie wrapped the smaller boy in a quick, tight hug. "i love you too eduardo."
eddie groaned again, but this time it was muffled by richie's chest.
"get a room," bev called out.
"if i hear you guys having sex tonight, i'm kicking you out of the friend group!" stanley announced. both bill and mike gave him a high five and laughed along.
"ok, ok, but if i hear you three having sex tonight, i'm kicking all of you out of the friend group!" richie told them sternly.
that was enough to shut the other three up and they turned back to their tent in defeat.
a smirk crossed mike's face. "everybody who votes for richie and eddie to go collect firewood for tonight's fire say i!"
five "i"'s rang out, and richie and eddie stared at the rest of the losers with open mouths.
"uhh, rude," richie snapped.
eddie sighed in defeat. "i guess there's no way we're getting out of this one, huh?"
ben laughed and shook his head. "nope. now get going, it's gonna get dark and i'd hate for something to get you."
eddie paled and gulped; richie shout ben a glare. he knew how eddie felt about the dark. he'd only agreed to go camping in the first place because richie had promised him they'd keep a lantern on in their tent at night.
"come on, let's go," eddie whimpered, tugging richie's hand.
richie, with another glare, followed his boyfriend into the woods. they walked along in silence. richie grabbed eddie's hand reassuringly.
it was clammy, and eddie gripped onto his hand.
"richie... i'm scared," eddie admitted, sounding ashamed of himself.
richie smiled reassuringly. "you know i'm here for you. and i won't leave. i'll protect you." richie winked.
eddie smiled back softly and nodded.
"it's ok to be scared baby. being scared means you're about to do something really, really brave."
"you have such a way with words," eddie snickered, elbowing richie gently in the side. "but in all seriousness, thank you."
richie kissed the top of his head. "no problem."
they continued walking, picking up short, stubby branches prefect for firewood along the way.
as it grew increasingly dark, eddie grew increasingly panicked. his breath became shorter and he started to get fidgety.
"don't you- you think this is enough w-wood? i do," he told richie quickly.
"come on, let's get a couple more branches, then we can go. ok?"
eddie nodded, wanting to seem brave. "okay 'chee."
they walked deeper into the woods until richie was satisfied with the amount of wood they had.
"ok, let's go back now," eddie said, relieved to finally get back to his friends.
"yeah..." richie said, turning around in a circle. "umm, which was is camp?"
eddie's face drained of color. "w-we're lost?" he squeaked.
richie bit his lip. "no no no. eds, everything's totally fine... we, we uhh. we just gotta retrace our steps. that's all."
there was suddenly a loud crash somewhere behind richie. eddie gave a small scream of terror before dropping all the wood he'd collected and took off running.
"eddie wait!" richie cried, dropping his wood and running after the asthmatic boy.
richie had almost caught up to eddie when the smaller boy stumbled, catching his foot in a dip in the ground.
eddie went sprawling, twisting his ankle in the process.
richie hurtled eddie, diving shoulder-first into the ground. he rolled onto his back, groaning in pain.
eddie sniffled, close to tears. "i'm s-sorry richie... i t-tried to be b-brave for you."
richie sat up, dragging eddie closer to him. "shh eds. you did great. i'm so proud of you."
eddie let out a small sob, clapping his hands over his mouth. "i should have been better."
"oh eds, no. don't think like that. please. i love you. i love you just like you are," richie soothed.
eddie continued to sob softly, and richie wrapped his arms around eddie's waist, kissing his head.
"come on, let's get back to camp."
he stood up, then picked eddie up, who clung to him, wrapping his arms around richie's neck and his legs around his waist.
finally, after about two hours, richie made it back to camp. eddie had fallen asleep in his arms, and richie intended on not waking him up.
that plan was thrown out the window however when the losers club saw them.
"r-richie!" bill cried. "y-you guys have b-been gone f-forever! w-"
"yeah guys, where were you?" ben cut in.
"did you guys have sex in the woods?" stanley demanded to know.
by now, eddie awoke, glancing at his friends confusedly.
"we had to build a fire with the sticks we found around the campsite," bev told them angrily, gesturing to the weak fire burning in the fire pit.
"look, i'm sorry. we'll go get more firewood in the morning. i promise," richie told them.
"uh huh," mike muttered, walking back towards the fire.
richie looked down at eddie, who looked like he might start to cry again.
"we're gonna go to bed. see you in the morning," richie told the losers, quickly whisking eddie into the tent.
"they're mad at me," eddie squeaked through a flood of tears.
richie wrapped a blanket around eddie's shoulders, then placed his hand against eddie's wet cheek.
"baby, listen to me. they're not mad. not at you ok? they just don't understand why we were out there for so long and didn't come back with firewood."
"do they still love me?" eddie asked pitifully.
"oh, eddie. yes. they'll never stop loving you."
eddie sniffled. "can we sleep now?" he asked quietly.
"sure baby."
richie helped eddie get comfortable, tucking the blanket around his shivering form.
richie placed his pillow beside eddie's so they could cuddle together.
"hey richie?" eddie whispered before the other boy laid his head down.
"hmm?"
"i-i don't need the lantern tonight. i'm not afraid."
richie blinked in surprise, grinning down at his boyfriend. "really?"
eddie nodded. "but only if you stay beside me... please."
"can do!" richie said happily, flipping the lantern off.
eddie curled up beside him in the darkness, nearly laying on richie's pillow.
"i told you. you were gonna do something brave. and look at you. i'm so fucking proud of you," richie whispered.
eddie beamed. "thank you richie," he murmured before falling asleep in richie's arms.
