richie pressed his lips to stanley's. "i'll see you at lunch, ok honey?"
stanley nodded, smiling and blushing. "okie doke. i love you!"
"love ya too!" richie called over his shoulder as he sauntered away.
stanley sat back against the picnic table in the courtyard of the school that he and richie shared every morning. was it that hard to say 'i love you too'?
he shrugged it off before standing up; he couldn't be late to class again. besides, he should just be happy he was dating an upper classman. all of stanley's classmates were jealous; the blond boy got a ride to and from school every day from his boyfriend; nobody else got that. nobody else could even score a partner a grade above them.
the late bell rang. stanley groaned in annoyance before running towards his first period class.
"late again mr. uris?" his first period teacher, mr. smith, asked with raised eyebrows. "you should really prioritize your life young man, and no, it doesn't all revolve around one person."
stanley hung his head in embarrassment; a few snickers rang out behind him. he walked silently to his seat, heat rising in his face.

richie plopped himself down in the back row of algebra two, kicking his feet up on the seat in front of him, just like he always did. he was shocked to feel a tap on his shoulder, and he spun around quickly.
he came face to face with the prettiest boy he'd ever seen; that meant something, because everybody knew stanley was the prettiest boy at derry high.
this boy was something else. petite with wide hips and thick thighs, freckles sprinkled across his face, big, brown doe-like eyes, and poofy brown hair with natural caramel highlights.
richie noticed this boy's mouth moving, noticed how soft and pink they were- "i'm so sorry," he said with a half smile. "what were you saying?"
the boy blushed, highlighting just how pale his skin really was. "can i sit here?" he asked softly, pointing at the seat richie rested his feet in. "nobody else will let me sit by them," he explained quietly.
"of course, of course!" richie told him, sitting up straighter and moving his feet. "have a seat."
eddie smiled softly at him. "thank you so much... i'm so sorry. i didn't ask your name!"
richie held out his hand. "richie tozier's the name, doll. and who do i owe the pleasure of speaking to?" he asked smoothly.
the boy blushed once again. "my name is eddie kaspbrak," eddie told him.
"well eddie, may i just say you are the prettiest boy i've ever met," richie stated matter of factly.
eddie's blush spread across his entire face. "oh h-hush," he managed. "i'm sure you say that to every boy you meet."
"but i really don't. do you want to come over to my house later?" richie asked, raising an eyebrow.
     "i dunno..."
richie slowly reached up and brushed a piece of eddie's loose hair from his face and behind his ear. "it'll be fun."
eddie nodded his head in quick, jerky motions. "ok fine!"
richie quickly scribbled his address down on a scrap piece of paper. "my house, five o'clock sharp."
"o-ok," eddie whimpered before turning around to listen to the teacher.

richie breathed a sigh of relief as he walked into fourth lunch. he and stanley has it together, but it seemed eddie did not.
he slinked over to stanley, slipping into the seat in front of him.
"you not eating today?" stanley asked before taking a bite of his salad.
"nah. i'm not hungry," richie waved him off.
stanley glanced down at his own food. "you can have some of mine if you want," he offered.
richie smiled a rare, soft smile. "this is why i love you," he breathed.
stanley dropped his head, face aflame and stomach full of butterflies. "i love you too 'chee."
richie took stanley's hand in his, squeezing it softly. "i know you do. oh my god, i almost forgot to tell you, i can bring you home this afternoon, but smith decided to assign a fucking project, so i'm gonna have to go home."
"awh," stanley tried not to whine. he'd just have to watch the movie he rented for tonight by himself. "that's ok! call me if you want some company!"
richie punched stanley's shoulder lightly. "i will-" his words were cut off by the lunch bell. "see ya, khaki man!"
stanley watched him run off with hearts for eyes. "bye trashmouth."

richie took stanley home as promised, but to the blond boy it seemed rushed and almost fake. he didn't even walk stanley inside.
he cleared his throat, smiling awkwardly. "thanks rich. i love you."
richie smiled back. "i love you too. see ya monday."
stanley's smile fell slightly. that meant they wouldn't go out for ice cream every saturday like they always did, nor would richie be at the synagog early sunday morning to see him before the preaching started.
he nodded his head and walked defeatedly back inside.

richie sped to his house, throwing his car into park and flinging himself inside and to his room. he quickly picked up the bits of trash and dirty clothes littering his room before sliding into the bathroom and turning on the shower.
he showered quickly, getting out at four thirty. that gave him just enough time to blow dry his hair before eddie arrived.
a knock on the door rang out just a few minutes before five. richie glanced at his watch before he unplugged the hairdryer and crept downstairs quietly.
eddie knocked again, a bit louder this time. he glanced at his watch. he was on time, a few minutes early even.
five o'clock sharp is what richie had said, he recalled.
he ceased knocking, and instead, eddie waited patiently for five o'clock to roll around.
richie opened the door just moments later, smiling softly at the boy.
"hello." his voice was smooth and cool, not an ounce of the crippling guilt and fear that tightened his heart could be heard through his 'celebrity' voice, as his friend beverly marsh liked to call it.
     "h-hi!" eddie managed.
richie gave him a half smile. "wanna go up to my room?"
eddie grinned, blushing harder than he already was. "ok, sure!"

richie walked eddie to the door, kissing him goodbye quickly.
"that was fun! we should maybe do it again sometime..." eddie whispered.
richie chuckled. it had been fun but he couldn't do this again. it was risky enough, but he wouldn't let stanley find out. "yeah, maybe. bye bye doll face."

the following monday, richie sat down next to a gloomy looking stan at their picnic table.
     "hi baby-"
"don't call me that," stanley snapped, his voice thick and choked with emotions.
     "stanley? what's wrong?"
"what's wrong? you fucking cheated richie! you cancelled our plans to fuck some innocent new kid!"
"woah woah woah, he came on to me!" richie lied.
"you fucking liar!" stanley screamed, slamming his hands down on the table. "i heard him talking to bill denbrough this morning about what you two did this weekend, and he said you invited him over! it would've been different if he'd actually known we were dating, i might have believed you! i hate you richie! we're done!"
"stanley... baby, i'm sorry... i know you're mad-"
"i'm not mad richie!" stanley sobbed. "i'm hurt. by the one person i loved the most. i need to go. h-have a nice life."

richie nearly ran up to eddie after school.
"hey," he gasped. "wanna come over to my house tonight?"
eddie turned around at him, glaring daggers. "you didn't tell me about stanley," he muttered gravely.
richie's words stuck in his throat. "i-i uhh-"
"you shouldn't have done that..." eddie whispered, tears of embarrassment and humiliation welling up in his eyes. "i shouldn't have done that. he's-he's a sweet kid rich, and now he's heartbroken. i told him i was so sorry, but he said it wasn't my fault. i promised i'd walk home with him today. he needs a shoulder to cry on right now, and i'll be damned if i'm not there for him. bye richie."
richie stared I open-mouthed shock as the short boy walked away to where ever he and stan planned on meeting.
     "bye eds. goodbye stanley."
