Mike's birthday Part 1

Today was Mikes 15th birthday and El had something special planned. For the last month El, Karen and Nancy had been planning a costume party at the community hall. Mike always said he loved Halloween, so El decided a costume party would be perfect.

They kept the guest list fairly short, including mostly family, the party and El's family. She even invited Becky and her mama, shes wanted Mike to be able to meet them for a while now. Mike had no idea any of this was planned, he just assumed he would have a sleepover with his friends like last year.

He woke up at 9:30am to El's voice over the super-com.

"Mike? Do you copy?"

"Yeah El I copy." Mike rubbed his eyes, he could fall back to sleep at any point.

"Happy birthday" El sung.

"Thank you beautiful." Mike smiled.

"I wanted to be the first person to tell you and also, I'm coming over for breakfast in twenty minutes." El stated while picking an outfit.

Mike quickly sat up, he needed to get ready. "Oh cool, I better get ready then."

"Yes, See you soon." El turned off the super-com and finished doing her hair.

Twenty minutes later El knocked at the door. Karen opened it with a smile, "Morning sweetheart".

"Morning Mrs Wheeler." El smiled.

"Oh honey how many times, call me Karen." Karen pulled her into a hug.

"Sorry, Karen. Where's Mike?" El asked.

"He's in the shower honey." Karen said as she closed the door.

"Okay good, I just wanted to check some of the plans for tonight." El made her way into the kitchen with Karen.

"Okay. So Hopper, Ted, the rest your friends and Joyce are starting decorating at 11. I finished all the food last night, but I might do some brownies as well this afternoon. Jonathan offered to DJ as he has plenty of mix-tapes and Mike's costume is in the back of my closet."

"Okay great, is that everything?" El was nervous, she wanted everything to be perfect.

"I think so. And you said you're going to over to check after breakfast?" Karen said as she loaded the plates with waffles.

"Yes and I will call you to let you know everything is okay." El smiled.

"And then you will come back here to distract Mike while I go over and drop off the food." Karen ran through the plan and filled the glasses with water.

"Yes and then you'll come home, we will wait for our friends and then we will tell him all together." El squealed.

Karen couldn't help but smile, this girl was so excited to make Mike's birthday perfect, she couldn't ask for anyone better for her son.

At that moment Mike came downstairs.

"Hey." Mike smiled at his girlfriend, not even noticing his mother slaving away in the kitchen.

"Hey" she walked over to him and pulled him into a short but loving kiss.

"We have Eggos for El but I also got out a selection of cereal so help yourself." Karen smiled at the couple.

"Thank you Mrs Wheeler." El smiled.

Karen looked at her with hands on her hips.

"Sorry, Karen." El went red.

Karen just smiled and continued what she was doing.

At 12:30pm El went to check on the decorating, her excuse to Mike was Joyce asked her to run to the shop for a few things. Mike being mike didn't realise the blatant lie. El biked over to the community hall on her new bike Hopper bought her for Christmas. She expected to see Lucas and Dustin arguing over something and Hopper losing his patience when she got there.
