The Bright Light ch.4

      Roku's eye shot open as he realized the loud buzzing that had been annoying him in his dream was his alarm clock. He swung himself up onto his feet and ran to Misaki's room. "Misaki!" The bed was empty. "You bitch!" He slipped on his uniform and ran out the door. Once he was outside, he jumped onto a bus and sat down. He hurriedly finished his homework and stuffed it into his bag. Then the bus came to a sudden stop and everybody was thrown against the seats in front of them. Roku stood up and walked to the front of the bus. The bus driver's face was petrified. Roku turned to where the driver was looking. He froze. The sky was filled with black smoke and it glowed red. Roku immediately knew what was burning. He burst out of the bus and heard distant explosions behind him. He ignored them as his heart drummed. He broke through the crowd of screaming students and ran into the red glow of the fire. He spotted Lanna on the floor. She choked on her own blood and her body twitched. A giant metal door was crushing her leg and roku noticed that her blue eyes were foggy. He crouched down next to her. "Lanna! Can you hear me!? I'll get you out don't worry!" She turned in the direction of Roku's voice. "R-roku!! Roku! Don't waste your time on me, Misaki is in the showers!" He lifted the metal door and threw it off to the side. He carefully picked Lanna up and ran to the lake that was beside the school. Lanna's leg was totally crushed and swung around lifelessly. Roku carefully put Lanna down in the lake and sprinted into the fire again. He ran in the direction of the showers as his heart raced.

       Misaki woke up early and dressed calmly. She slipped on her shoes and ate a slice of bread. Turning to look at Roku's door, she wondered if she should wake him up. She decided to let him sleep and left. Once in the classroom, she unpacked and greeted Lanna. She was always early to school. The classroom door opened and five guys horsed around, pulling and shoving each other. Misaki ignored them and started completing her homework. Just as she was almost finishing, an apple juice exploded in her face and spilled all over her shirt. She glared at the guy who had been shoved and landed on the juice box, who was holding back a laugh. She stomped out of the room and headed for the showers, muttering angrily. "Stupid asshole. Spray juice all over a girl and laughs? Some gentleman he is." She took a quick shower and changed into a new uniform. As she slipped on her shoe, she heard a loud explosion in the other room. She stood straight and walked closer to the wall. She layed her ear against it. Flinching back at the sudden heat, she heard another explosion and the wall started to tilt towards her. She walked backwards and fell into the round tub. The wall crashed over the tub, only being held up by the faucet at the top of the bathtub. Her eyes widened as the faucet creaked and tipped towards her. She thought desperately to herself. Please don't break! If that breaks --It broke with a loud crack and Misaki was sprayed violently with the cold rushing water. The wall fell directly flat on top of the bathtub, trapping Misaki inside. The water rose rapidly. Misaki began to panic. She hit her fists against the wall and kicked at it. "Help!!! Somebody!! Help!!!!!" Misaki grabbed the broken faucet piece in her hand and used the broken pointy part to attack the wall. But the faucet slipped in her grasp and cut a long streak of flesh off her arm. "Ahhh!!!!! Ow!!" The blood flowed through the cold water as it started to drown her. Misaki took her last breath and clawed at the wall desperately. Misaki was almost out of breath as the wall was lifted. She burst out of the red water, and into the suffocating hot smoke. Big arms wrapped around her and pulled her out of the tub. Misaki rubbed her eyes and found Roku. He was bandaging her arm with a piece of his shirt. He tied it tight and looked into Misaki's eyes. "Misaki! Are you okay?" Misaki did a quick check of her body before nodding. "You?" He paused for a bit, but then nodded. His arms slid under her and lifted her. "What're you --" Misaki's eyes widened as black, large, bat-like wings burst out of his back. She had forgotten that vampires had wings. The huge wings pushed them up both into the burning air. Misaki wrapped her arms around Roku and held on tight.  Misaki's eyes widened as she spotted a dangerously large figure looming over them. The head of the figure turned to Misaki and its eyes glowed red. Misaki could see his fangs flash in the firelight and grow. Misaki shivered and clutched onto Roku. "R-roku! Over us!" " I know!" The vampire hissed and swooped down, aiming its teeth at Misaki. Misaki dug her face into Roku's chest. Roku swayed to the side quickly and the vampire fell to the ground. Roku's arms tightened around Misaki. "Misaki." "W-what?" "Hold on to me tightly." Misaki turned and saw a bright light. Something hard hit her head and she passed out.
