cousin Hayden pov
"Lottie" We all scream climbing to our feet looking at the ocean as the last thing any of us saw was Lottie drop on the wave then get side swiped before disappearing under the wave. I don't know how long I was holding my breath but I know theres no chance she's going on us today. With each second we all get closer to the ocean waiting for any thing but the seconds tick by and Charlotte hasn't popped her head up however her surf board has ripped from her ankle and floated to the top. Theres nothing but silence as we hear the first responders circle the area Charlotte went down, we are all ready to jump in ourselves to help the search when we see one of the first responders jump in and dive down. When we see Charlotte board being pulled on the back of the jet ski I let go off the breath I was holding and put my hands on the back of my head hoping for the best.
"Everyone give the first responder room to work" you hear being shouted though the intercom as everyone is on their toes hoping for the best as the jet ski comes zooming on the beach, theres not a single noise in hearing distance as everyone waits. The first heat is over and the surfers have come in waiting patiently on the news about Lottie. Watching as Charlotte gets carried onto the beach her arm falls and goes limb, everyone can't believe their eyes, parents are covering there children's eyes from what they know they are about to see.
"Lottie come on breath" auntie Sarah starts running over too Lottie but is being held back by her brother Jason who has a worried look on his face as he hold back his sister from getting in the way. Grandad is holding his wife back with tears in his eyes feeling slight responsibility as he wanted her back on the board in the first place. I stand there looking on knowing theres nothing I can do but pray that Charlotte parents aren't quite ready for her yet.
"She's not breathing, start chest compressions" everyone hears and starts to worry, at this point Sarah and grandma have broken down in tears as the family and whole town are trying their hardest to keep it together.
Charlotte pov
I knew giving up fighting to reach the surfaces was a bad idea and I knew my parents would disapprove but I couldn't fight no more, it felt like I was drowning when I got hit by the wave and turns out I was. Being pulled to the shore after three minutes I'm still not breathing but I'm about to give up, this is my second time fighting for my life and the first time was hard enough that I wanted my parents and now the second, I just want to float away pretend like everything is ok when its far from anything remotely ok.
"Alway from the eye, never from the heart. Charlotte Anna-bell Lockhart it's not your time" I hear my father as a first responder starts giving me chest compressions, I see a glimpse of light as I hear my father tell me that one sentence I have been repeating. I keep repeating it again and again in hopes of seeing my parents again but theres no hope.
"Lottie please don't go, who's going to be my good luck charm" I hear Katie crying as her dad holds her back shielding her eyes stopping her from seeing my life less body. Thinking about my dad I start to come to coughing as water is in my lungs, before I know whats happening I am rolled on my side as waters comes rolling out my mouth, how much did I swallow.
"She's moving, everyone please give her and the ambulance crew some room please" a man says though the intercom but as I open my eyes slightly I see two first responder standing over me with a shy smile on one of there faces which looks like a relief smile but I just close my eyes for a second before saying anything.
"Thank you" I say coughing as I'm being carried into the back of the ambulance, I didn't have a choice as my grandad told me I'm going to get checked out whether I like it or not but I roll my eyes and do as he told considering I almost given him a heart attack like the rest of the town.
Enjoying the ambulance drive the paramedics is talking to me about something but I slowly start to close my eyes once again, I know I shouldn't be closing my eyes after near drowning as I might have a concussion but I just want to close my eyes to see if I will see my parents standing side by side with a smile on their faces, every time I was out on the ocean I looked in the crowd wondering if my parents would be there but I was disappointed each time as the thought of them being dead kept coming to my mind. I just need to see their faces.
"Hey, keep your eyes open for me" I hear the lady ask placing her hand on mine, as we get closer to the hospital, I didn't want to come but it wasn't my choice as my family wouldn't give me a choice to head home. I tried for my parents and now I hope they are proud of me trying. Finally reaching the hospital I am getting rolled in and being put into a separate room, the doctors look over my chest and check my breathing, run a hand full of test after my near drowning death experience but I don't have to wait long till the family are coming running in checking on me, one by one everyone turns up looking me over before wanting to speak to a doctor.
"You had all us so worried, I though I was about to lose you" I hear uncle Steven say coming to me first with auntie Sarah behind me, I see everyone but Katie and I know this hadn't been easy on her watching her best friend die for a second to be bought back.
"Where's Katie?" I ask curious as I'm sure she was cheering me on at the beach, I look at my two uncles to answer my question but they look at my grandparents wondering if they should be saying anything.
"She went to the cafe to pick up your chocolate chip milkshake and her strawberry one" I listen but we only get those milkshakes when someone wins there heat or a big competition, I look a little confused but Hayden looks at me with a smile and I frown my eyebrows at him.
"Your came second. You're going to the next round" I hear him say but I'm a little shocked at I didn't think I actually made it as it was close between us. However a second emotions floods over me as I think about everything that just happened and I don't know if I can get back on the board, I turn white just thinking about it but I plaster a smile on my face trying not to give my family another heart attack.
After everyone checking up on me they finally left to get dinner started and told me they be back within two hours but as I look at the door Darren is standing there watching me, I didn't see him on the beach but I'm sure he was watching from somewhere but why wait till everyone is gone to come and see me.
"Congratulations little sapphire"he says stepping closer to me and take a seat beside me that's now free as everyone disappeared and wont be back for a while which leaves us some time to talk or for me to listen.
"Thank you, when the wave hit me I knew I was drowning and I was being pulled down. I was fighting but I couldn't anymore" I say out of no where but I apart of me glad I did as he's the only one who knows what I'm going though and can help me. Darren isn't my family so I know I can count of me not to baby me and tell me what he thinks of everything but as I tell him I can see the worried look on his face.
"You have to think about everything there left to fight for. Thinking negative doesn't help, next time think about growing old with someone or the times at the cafe with Katie. Think about the happy memories. Don't ever give up" I hear Darren say taking my hand in his. Over the last couple of day me and him have gotten real closer which I enjoy as he's really easy going, I can tell him anything and I know he always give me the best advice.
Darren is someone I know I can turn to and whatever I say he will keep it to himself and give me his best advice, I know he's my cousin best friend but somehow over the last couple of days he has been someone I can go too if I just need to talk or if I need a break from everyone however theres no getting away from the family now after today.
