Darkness was falling on my way towards Mr. Bagans’ estate. I looked out the window and saw the acres and acres of land, oh what beauty it was too look at this time of the evening. I sat back in my seat, and tried to relax my nerves until I made my arrival. But my nerves got the best of me and refused to let me close my eyes for just a minute. It felt like hours, I then look outside, only to see that night has completely fallen, and a full moon was about to show.
Finally, the carriage starts to slow down. I take pull back the curtain a little to see Zak’s house. It was like a giant castle, bigger than any estate I’ve seen before. I sit up as the door opens and a black man (not to be racist.) smiles at me, and offers his hand to me. I take it with a smile, as he helps me down and closes the carriage door behind me. Then, I turn around and smile a huge smile. Zak smiles at me, “Welcome Miss. Allison. My home, is your home until your parents return.” He bowed respectfully, as I curtsied. Zak came up to me and offered me his arm. I gladly accepted and put my hand in his arm. His butlers and maids were lined up and as I passes they curtsied or bowed. I bowed my head in return with a warm smile.
Once Zak and I were inside, I had to rethink about almost everything. Just the entrance room was so huge, I might get lost. I let go of Zak’s arm and look at all of the beauty that surrounded his home. It looked so expensive that I was afraid to touch anything. The floors were a marble of a dark brown color with diamond patterns, the walls were red with the dark wood. There were paintings of probably of old family members, or historical pieces of art. The pieces of furniture was matching the red and dark wood theme of the house. There was a few gold antiques here and there. I was very impressed by the house. Above us was a huge chandelier, it looked like it was made of real jewels. It made the room shine so bright, but it brought a home like glow to the room. If my mother saw this house, she would immediately get her things and move in without a fight. Her word will be final, and I can just see her talking away to her lady friends telling how her daughter lives in a very expensive estate, owned by one of the richest men in possibly all of England.
“Like my home?” Zak whispered in my ear. I looked in the huge mirror above me and smiled at him. “It’s gorgeous. I’m afraid to touch anything, or be afraid that I might get lost.” I admit. Zak laughed at my response. Zak pulled away and I turned around where all of the maids and butlers waited to be told what to do. “These are all of my maids and butlers. Your room will be right next to mine. Kandice,” I woman with light brown eyes, dark and light brown hair, and was a little curvy, stepped up, and curtsied. “She will be your maid until you leave.” I smiled at her.
“I suppose you have not had dinner yet, so dinner will be in an hour. That should give you time to freshen up and what not.” Zak took out his golden pocket watch, and checked the time. “It is 7 sharp. So at 8 is when you should be ready. Kandice will show you to your room.” “Yes, sir.” Kandice said softly. I looked at Zak and smiled at him. I looked at all of the maids and butlers and smiled at them too. Then, Kandice and I walked up the blood red carpet staircase to my room.
Kandice and I walked a long hallway. The carpet was red, except it had white walls and gold carvings on the side. More ancient pictures showed, along with some huge, to the top of the ceiling to the floor windows with dark red curtains. There were a few vases here and there with flowers in them, and candles to help give the hallway some light. For some reason, I did not get a good feeling in this hallway. Kandice stopped at a pair of white doors with golden designs on it. She opened it and moved aside for me to get in. Once I was in, I was in awe of the room.
The room was all white and had golden designs and on the top perimeter of the room. The bed was a super king size bed, with champagne sheets and crisps white pillows. There was light colored carpet, with an elegant pattern in it. There were two huge dressers. One that stood a few feet away from the door, and the other was against the wall on the other side of the room. There was a little desk with a mirror and I saw a few of my stuff already on it, along with my journal. And then, there was this huge window that had white and champagne curtains. I looked outside and was in awe. There was so much land, I bet it went for miles and miles. The land was also occupied with trees. There was two dark wood night stands on each side of the bed. On the end of the bed, was a champagne colored couch, and the bed post was golden with a white canopy.
Kandice closed the door behind her and folded her hands in front of her. I checked the same white double doors. It was a huge closet. And all of my dresses where in there. I was surprised, I still had room for more dresses. Then I closed the closet doors, and waked to another pair of the same doors. There was the bathroom. It was all white, and a huge window so I can admire the beauty outside as I bathed. There was a changing area, and a huge antique bathtub.
I walked back out from the bathroom, to find a box on the bed. I smiled and went to the bed. I sat on the couch and opened the box. There was a letter. I, carefully, opened the letter; it read.
Dear Miss. Allison,
I hope you enjoyed your humble welcome to my home. Please get ready for dinner, eight sharp. Feel free to roam around, with a chaperone if you are afraid to get lost. I hope you enjoy your room, and your stay. Oh and before I forget. Enjoy my present to you as a welcome gift. I hope you wear it for tonight’s dinner. See you at eight.
Sincerely,
Mr. Bagans
I smiled at the letter and put it to the side. I turned back to the box and opened it. I gasped in awe at what I saw. It was a custom made dress, from Paris. It was light blue with some white in it. It covered my arms and had some designs. The white was on the bottom while the blue was on top. I turns to Kandice. “It is very beautiful.” She nodded in response. I was beginning to like her company. She seemed very friendly.
“Kandice, what time is it?” I asked her with a smile. She looked at the clock in the corner while I was writing a ‘Thank you ‘letter to Mr. Bagans in return. “It is 7:15 ma’am.” She said with a smile. I folded the letter and put it in an envelope in the tiny drawer where my journal was kept. I handed the envelope to Kandice. “Please give this to Mr. Bagans and then help me get ready please?” I asked her. “Yes ma’am.” She curtsied and left, quietly closing the door behind her. Then, I was left with my thoughts.
