15 - Wait

"WEI YING!" Lan Zhan shouted as he looked at his empty hands. He felt a pang in his heart as his eyes started looking more dull, more lost.

XiChen and Jiang Cheng were both shocked and stunned but XiChen felt even more worried when he saw his little brother's reaction.

Lan Zhan's hands slowly reached down to the ground, patting the ground furiously, trying to find his Wei Ying, as if he had gone blind instead of Wei Ying disappearing.

"WangJi..." XiChen mumbled as he felt his heart broke for his precious little brother. WangJi pat all over the ground and looked all over JingShi, even under the table.

XiChen passed Lan Han to the frozen Lan QiRen and followed after Lan Zhan, who ran to the rabbit den.

Jiang Cheng hushed and rocked Lan Yin who started crying. Lan Han was also crying and Lan QiRen came back to his senses, though he panicked even more.

Lan Zhan ran to the hut on the back mountain and ran all over Cloud Recesses. He then ran back to JingShi.

XiChen stopped him "WangJi..." Lan Zhan looked up and gave a slight smile "Brother, I have to set off. Wei Ying is waiting for me. He must have gone to Yunmeng"

Jiang Cheng frowned as he stood in front of Lan Zhan "Wei WuXian didn't go to Yunmeng. He disappeared"

Lan Zhan shot Jiang Cheng a deadly glare then turned to XiChen "Brother, he must have went to Master. I'll go there and bring Wei Ying back"

Lan QiRen looked at Lan Han in his arms. "WangJi" Lan Zhan turned around and bowed "Uncle, I'll go meet Wei Y-..."

"Stop" Lan Qiren said strictly and loudly. "WangJi, you were the one holding Wei Ying. Where did he go?"

"I... I... I must have been too happy I blanked out. Wei Ying must have also been too happy he wanted to tell Master immediately. He must have went there while I blanked out" Lan Zhan said while nodding his head.

XiChen frowned sadly as he watched his brother trying to convince himself. Lan QiRen walked towards Lan Zhan. "Look here, this is your child"

Lan Zhan did not look "Uncle, Wei Ying is waiting for me" Lan Zhan then turned around. Jiang Cheng carefully passed Lan Yin to XiChen before walking up to Lan Zhan.

Angry, Jiang Cheng reached out to punch Lan Zhan. "You're not the only one feeling upset, lost and confused! We all saw him disappear! Face it!"

Jiang Cheng pulled Lan Zhan up by the collar and pushed him to Lan QiRen and Lan XiChen "Look! Your Wei Ying left you two precious bundles of love! And what are you doing?! They are crying for their father and here you are being stupid!"

Lan Zhan shakily reached out and touched Lan Han and Lan Yin's cheeks. The two stopped crying and reached their little hands out to grasp Lan Zhan's hand.

Lan Zhan smiled a little but a tear dripped down his face. Later on, Lan Zhan, XiChen and Jiang Cheng were taught how to handle and take care of the baby.

Lan Zhan was half paying attention as he told himself he needed to do this for Lan Han and Lan Yin yet his mind couldn't help but think of Wei Ying.

Lan Han and Lan Yin finally went to sleep. Lan Zhan stared at them for a little before sitting down in front of his guqin.

Lan Zhan stared at it and took a deep breath, before he started plucking strings. He searched everywhere and asked every spirits.

Lan XiChen and Jiang Cheng barged into JingShi. XiChen froze upon seeing Lan Zhan engrossed in soul searching.

After Jiang Cheng managed to hush Lan Han and Lan Yin, he called out for Lan Zhan but Lan Zhan was cut off from the world as he was searching too deeply.

Lan XiChen shook his head and signaled for Jiang Cheng to leave Lan Zhan. When Lan Zhan searched and searched and found nothing, he stopped.

He then walked over to Lan Han and Lan Yin just to realise they aren't there. This time, he felt a pang in his heart two. His kids!

The two kids the love of his life sacrificed so much to give birth to. The one thing his Wei Ying specifically told him to take care well of. Have they disappeared like Wei Ying?

Lan Zhan looked all over JingShi again, even unnder the bed. He then quickly ran to his brother.

Jiang Cheng was waiting at the entrance. Lan Zhan slowed down "Did you see my kids?"

Jiang Cheng scoffed "So you know that they are your kids?" Lan Zhan looked down feeling a little guilty. He didn't even know they took Lan Han and Lan Yin away.

Hai Kuan came out and gently pat Jiang Cheng's back. Hai Kuan then shook his head "WangJi, it's fine if you want to soul search but not for 3 days straight"

3 days?! Lan Zhan thought he only soul searched for a night. Jiang Cheng got mad "It's not fine at all!"

Reaching up to grab Lan Zhan's collar, Jiang Cheng shouted "Do you think Wei WuXian is dead?!"

"Of course not" Lan Zhan glared back. Jiang Cheng smirked "Yea sure. You think he isn't dead but you went to search for his soul"

Lan Zhan kept quiet. He just wanted to know. If he happened to find Wei Ying's soul, at least he know where Wei Ying is.

Jiang Cheng released Lan Zhan "Do you think Wei WuXian will come back?" Lan Zhan immediately looked up "Of course"

"Then wait for him!" Jiang Cheng shouted "Right now, do what Wei WuXian wants you to do! Properly take care of your kids! Not ignore them without even knowing 3 days have passed!"

Jiang Cheng glared at Lan Zhan and pointed a finger towards him "Get your shit together before you come back for my niece and nephew. I don't want them to die in your hands."

Jiang Cheng then stormed back into the room. XiChen pat Lan Zhan's back "WanYin's words might be a little harsh but it's true. You should have been more aware. They are your kids"

XiChen turned around but halted "And... Brother-in-law told me you promised him to take care of Lan Han and Lan Yin properly in case anything happens."

XiChen then went back into his room and Lan Zhan stared emptily at the door. After some time, he went to the cold spring.

He meditated for a while to clear his thoughts and settle his mind before going to their hut on the back mountains.

He caressed the two rabbit figurines on the table and smiled. Lan Zhan smiled at the black rabbit "Wei Ying, I'll wait for you to come back"

He then shifted the white rabbit closer to the black rabbit, so close that there weren't any space in between.

He left the hut, more determined to properly take care of his two kids and when his Wei Ying returns with a wide smile, he will happily get praised by Wei Ying that he did a good job and their family will be complete.
