The War For Guardpost
John Kenway

I attached the earpiece that Jack gave me to my ear and turned it on as the four of us walked out of the tent.

"Fill us in Jack, what's going on?" I asked glancing over to Ace. We all stood outside of the tent that I was being tortured in not long ago.

"Izzy and Tyler are guarding the City with everything we got, Andrew and Sam are somewhere between here and the City, hopefully keeping some pressure away from Guardpost. Nevermore is on their way with back up, but frankly we'll see" Jack shrugged.

I nodded. "You should know, Echo still has our Cores Jack, he's got them trapped inside that damn cube of his. Did Tyler whip up any ideas on how to deal with that thing? Or maybe the Crystal could answer my question?" I asked pointing to the glowing staff on his back.

He glanced back at it and smirked. "I forgot I brought that thing with me to be honest. Tyler's best advice is that we smash the damn thing to pieces. Besides that no, in the event that he gets our cores, we'll have to go fists to cuffs"

"Not a great plan Mr. Turner" a voice spoke from down the path.

We all turned to see Echo standing there, holding his double edged staff.

"Or have you forgotten the last time we fought even with your Core?" Echo smirked, I noticed Echo was injured, he was slouching, leaning against his staff, and there was a bleeding wound on his chest that he was grabbing.

"Shouldn't you be with your devoted slaves?" Ace barked, his hands turning into plasma cannons. Jack's hands lit up on fire, and Tim and I aimed our pistols.

"Ivan set off a alarm, where is he? I assume you killed him?"

"No actually, I barked and he pissed himself and ran away to call for mommy to beat up the bully" Jack spoke with a grin.

"I knew we should've taken that fucker down" Tim mumbled.

"You look hurt Echo? What happened did you underestimate us again?" I asked.

Echo smirked. "Not at all John, just didn't expect you to unleash Andrew so quickly. He certainly got a few licks in before Star showed up. But, since I'm here, maybe it's time to talk about your surrender?"

"Surrender? Well aren't you cute, Spies, take him down!" I ordered. Jack jumped right towards Echo but Echo lifted a hand and opened a portal right in front of him, closing the portal right behind him, teleporting Jack elsewhere.

Two more portals opened right underneath Ace and Tim, both falling through and not having a moment to react before Echo closed the portal behind them.

"Now" Echo spoke, his wounds having enough time to fully heal. Echo stood up straight and spun his staff, standing in a battle position.

"How confidant are you all by yourself Johnny?"

I didn't answer, I drew my sword and charged. Echo went on the defense and blocked my first attack, but I kept it strong, swinging back and fourth over and over, faster and faster knowing that his endurance and stamina would fade far before mine.

"The only issue" Echo grunted. I could see him struggling already. "Is that I can sense your every move"

I kicked him in the chest, something that he didn't seem to have time to react to, he stumbled back, spun his staff again and went in for another attack. He jumped into the air and positioned himself to slam the staff down on my head, but I dodged out of the way. Echo's super strength leaving a small crack in the dirt where he landed.
