Can't go to sleep, you're wide awake lying in bed with your eyes wide open,

Just can't seem to find a way to shut up your thoughts and go to sleep.

You're too awake and your restless mind refuses to shut up and settle down,

Sleep is so out of reach that you can't find a way to let sleep overtake.

Stuck lying awake because you drank one too many cups of coffee today,

Wishing that you could go out like a light as soon as you hit your pillow.

But too bad cause your bad study habits mean that your bloodstream is filled with caffeine,

Too many nights that you've stayed up late wasting your time until three or four.

Reluctant to shut up and stop so you can just take a break and rest,

Instead, you wasted time so you had to stay up late to cram and study for a test.

You want to go to sleep, you're physically exhausted but your mind begs to differ,

Please come quicker sleep, I want to close my eyes and peacefully drift away.

Because when you are asleep, it's quiet, it's calm, relaxing, enjoyable,

But when you're awake, the slightest noise can trigger your senses and disturb you.

So some people stay up all night and drink coffee or energy drinks,

Cause trying to fall asleep is too hard when the voices in your head won't shut up.

And there is no easy way to fall asleep besides taking sleeping pills,

Though it's nice to fall asleep naturally and dream when you close your eyes.
