For my first Christmas one-shot it only makes sense that I give you guys my favorite Christmas story ever.
***third person***
Castiel Novak and Dean Winchester didn't have much money. Dean's father was a hunter and had trouble making enough to put food on the table. Castiel was raised in a rather wealthy family but was cut off as soon as he told them he was gay.
They lived in a tiny apartment that had no heating or air conditioning. Dean kept food on the table by working at his uncle's garage. It didn't pay much but at least it was something.
Christmas was a stressful one for the two of them for this reason. The only person they had to get a gift for, other than the two of them, was Dean's brother Sam, but they didn't even have enough for that.
It was Christmas Eve, and Dean had picked up some extra shifts in order to earn a little more money. Castiel was counting up the money he had been saving in secret for Dean's present. "Nine dollars and twenty-four cents..." he mutter to himself. He wouldn't be able to get Dean a good gift with only nine dollars.
He looked in the corner of the room to where his painting stuff was. Years and years of saving had gone into purchasing all the canvas and expensive brushes and the easel. He hadn't had money to buy paints in months so all his stuff had sat there idle. Painting was one thing he loved the most, other than Dean.
He packed up all his painting things and made his way down to the art shop across the street. The woman there was very interested in the brushes, but pretended like she wasn't. If she could sell them to Castiel for a low price, she would be able to make more money off of them when she sold them again.
Cas left the store with forty dollars in his hand. He went right next door to the music shop and found the beautiful blue guitar case that Dean had been admiring the day before. Castiel quickly gave over his forty dollars and took the case home.
Dean loved his guitar. It was a gift he received for his birthday the year he turned fifteen. It was his most prized possession.
After wrapping the case as best as he could, Castiel started on dinner and set the table. Right as he brought the small ham out and set it down, Dean walked in.
"Wow, it smells great, Cas!" He kissed Cas' cheek then sat down. They are their food in silence.
When all the food was done, Cas got up and grabbed the case for Dean. Dean opened it with a look that Cas couldn't read. But he shook it off as Dean handed Cas his present. Castiel opened it happily until he saw what was inside the large box.
"There's a hundred of 'em." Dean said proudly. Castiel looked down at the large tubes of really nice paint.
"Oh, Dean..." Cas felt tears well in his eyes as he looked up at his boyfriend. "I don't have anything that I us this on. I sold all my brushes and canvas to buy you that case."
Dean wrapped Castiel in a warm hug, "I sold my guitar... to buy the paints."
Castiel sniffled a couple times before laughing. Then Dean started laughing. Dean kissed Cas' nose and said, "it's okay, baby. We'll save the presents until we can use them."
