it was forbidden to interact with humans. any chosen interaction with them could equal banishment. your people were only glimmering, exotic, animals to humans. dangerous.

you usually stayed away from the ships that sailed around your home, only observing from afar where they would never see you. but this ship and crew was different from the past ones you've seen. the crew was young, probably around your age and... very loud. even from your usually hiding spot could you hear the words they spoke.

odd humans... you thought watching them. you were about to go about your day before you heard a large splash and some people yelling. turning back you see the young males looking over the side of the boat before you glance to see one of them in the ocean.

you let out gasp before diving into the water and swimming over to boy. he was drowning when you swam over to him and quickly wrapped your arms around him before swimming up to the surface. when you broke through to the surface, you could hear one of the males gasp before they starting yelling to the others.

the male you were holding starting coughing and gasping for air as you watched his crew members quickly lower a ladder down. you guided the boy over the ladder before helping him up. one of the crew members reached down and pulled him over the edge back onto the ship.

"wooyoung, are you okay!?"

wooyoung? odd name, you thought.

"hey, miss, do you need help? you're welcome to come up if you want," one of the crew members said to you and you can tell he doesn't realize you aren't human like him.

"no thanks. i've interfered enough," you say and before he could reply you quickly diving back into the water, your tail grazing the surface of the water before it disappeared with the rest of you body.

"a mermaid," wooyoung mumbled while seonghwa checked over him as san draped a towel over his shoulders.

"y/n, you have broken one of our most sacred rules and for that you must be punished," the head of your pod said looking at you with regret. one of the other mermaids had saw you rescue and talk to the humans and immediately went and told the pod leader.

you frowned refusing to look at anyone as the pod leader continued to speak.

"i am sorry, y/n, but i have no other choice but to banish you and as punishment for your interacting with the humans, you must become one of them," some of the pod gasp and started whispering amongst themselves.

become a human? god you would rather have become a siren or be killed by poseidon himself. becoming human meant never being able to return to your pod, your home. never being able to do... well anything you had been doing your whole life.

your pod elder, was the only one with the power to strip a mermaid of her powers. being in front of the elder, you could feel the power she held. before you, only one other mermaid was turned into a human because she fell in love with a human. you aren't sure what happened to her.

"oh, poseidon, your great father, one of our own has betrayed us!" the elder started. "interacting with the surface world and those that have wronged us for centuries! one of your daughters SAVED the life of one of those surface monsters! i call upon the power of you, great poseidon, to strip this child of her title and to turn her into one of that she saved!"

you felt your body grow warm, hot, fire before quickly turning ice cold. your vision started going blurry, doubling before black spots started clouding your vision. soon your vision turned black as you passed out.
