Kriss was getting quite good and working her way through the grimoires in the study. Never had she seen so much knowledge in one place and she planned to take advantage of it. She was looking for spells to create dark objects when she heard unknown voices approach the door. Kriss snuck out the French doors to the patio but stayed to listen in. After a second she realized it was Freya and Alaric. Kriss heard Freya's shoes click on the floor.
"I don't understand your issue about her," Freya said and Kriss heard the wood lightly squeak when Freya sat down.
"I have no more issue with her than I do with the rest of your brood," Alaric said. Kriss could hear the keys jangle in his pockets.
"You realize you're comparing her to mass murderers?"
"She hasn't killed anyone?"
"Every vampire has killed someone. You were once such a creature,"
"Talk about the worst years of my life. Until now that is."
"More of a reason that you should let us help. Bonnie Bennet is a great witch but no one will ever understand their actual experience like Krissette will. We all alternate teaching Haydee. Josie and Lizzie could join the elementary lessons" Freya told him.
"Nope. Bonnie has been doing just fine."
"As great as witches that have been around for a thousand years?" Freya asked and he cleared his throat, "Or a witch who shares the exact same weaknesses as your children?"
"I want them to have a normal life. Something none of you or your niece have ever gotten."
Kriss took this as her chance to stop eavesdropping. She went through the French doors in vamp speed then appeared at the bookcase. "Your children lost their chance at a normal life when you decided to marry a witch and not some human," Kriss said.
"I've dealt with your kind long enough to know that but I have to try," Alaric replied and Kriss laughed coldly.
"I don't think you're trying the right way. You haven't met our daughter but she's well adjusted. Plays sports, speaks three languages and is a magical genius,"
"And unlike most parents, Krissette isn't exaggerating," Freya said from the chair.
"Thank you, Freya," Kriss looked to her and received a curt nod.
"But her role model is a blood-sucking vampire," Alaric raised his voice, "An unstable one at that."
"I think I'm pretty controlled. Even more than the people you consider friends," Kriss said and Alaric stood up and began towards the door.
"Your real problem is that Krissette is not even your worst fear," Freya said to his back, "Sure, them becoming witch-vampire hybrids is top three but the winner is that pesky little Gemini merge. One twin has to kill the other." The revelation surprised Kriss. Maybe his worry was misplaced, "Is it their eighteenth birthday or twenty-first, I can never remember?"
"That's doubtful," Alaric practically growled, "How do you know about that?"
"I'm good at what I do. Your problem is that no matter what, you have to choose a child. They merge, you end up with one. Or one could easily become a Heretic and no need for the merge. But that means one of your daughters has to become what you hate, at least they're both still alive?" Freya said. She had a habit of being cold about things. Straightforward. And people either liked it or they didn't. Alaric was on his way out of the room before there was a knock on the door and it swung wide open.
He stopped walking as Haydee was directly in front of him. "Who're you?" she asked.
"Haydee, this is Alaric Saltzman. He's the father of the Siphoner twins," Kriss explained.
