The next day at work, instead of watching Haydee from behind a wall, Kriss decided to hang out in the unofficial teacher's lounge. It was really just the makeshift office of Alaric but its where the other two members of the faculty would be. She walked in to see Bonnie draped over a large antique chair in the corner of the room. She nodded her head at the witch and looked over at Alaric who was sipping a glass of whiskey. Walking over to the bookcase, she moved one over to see a stack of glasses. Kriss grabbed one and snatched the bottle from his desk. He looked at her in anger but shrugged it off. "Tough second day?" Bonnie asked her. Kriss waited until she drank the first glass and poured her second to even acknowledge the question.
"You know the spell to rid someone of their voice?" Kriss asked Bonnie. She knew it, just didn't think she'd ever have to use it.
"The terror twins?" She gave her another look and plopped down on the chair across from Alaric. Not a drop of liquor spilled and she was proud of her vampire reflexes. Alaric topped off her glass then added more to his own.
"Being a teacher sucks sometimes," he said to her and clinked their glasses.
"So where's the missus?" Kriss asked Alaric, she hadn't seen Caroline in a few weeks. Alaric choked on his drink.
"Oh, they're not..." Bonnie started as Alaric tried to regain his composure, "They didn't..."
"Caroline was a magical surrogate. There's never been any romance between us," he answered taking every few words to cough again.
"I'll have to get that story sometime," Kriss said before they moved on to the student files. Alaric was a stickler for paperwork. They make it more interesting with the whiskey and all went well. Then someone knocked on the door. The person didn't wait for an answer and walked right in.
Stefan Salvatore entered the office and looked straight to Bonnie. Kriss noticed that her blood was rushing fast and to some pretty illicit places. It caused her to raise her brow. After a moment of silence, Kriss cleared her throat. Stefan got the frog out of his and looked to Alaric. "We got another one...liquid lunch?" he asked, acknowledging their glasses.
"Isn't it always? In one way or another?" Kriss asked him in return and he nodded his head in agreement.
"What did you find?" Alaric questioned him and changed the subject.
"A purist. Well, Damon did. In Georgia. They're after something and I'm headed there now," he said.
"Where in Georgia? Do you need back up?" Bonnie asked quickly. They stared at each other and Kriss cleared her throat again, louder this time.
"Goddess, there must be something caught in there," she said and coughed then took another sip of her drink. Alaric downed his and poured himself another one.
"You know what, the back up wouldn't kill me." Stefan said. Bonnie nodded and got up out of her chair quickly. It was hard for Kriss to control her laughter and even harder to control the smile. The pair left the room together, leaving the two drinkers.
"Well that's going to happen within the next twenty four hours." she joked.
"I'd rather not think about it."
"What is it about witches and vampire pairings?"
"Again, don't want to think about it. I just want my lunch," he said and finished his third glass. Kriss nodded and did the same before pouring herself another.
