Chapter 23

Authors Note: Sorry it took so long. Finally, the conclusion of Fate's Path. And I need your opinions in the next author's note I post so please help a sis out and speak up.  This chapter is unedited. Grammarly was messing up. 

Kriss and Haydee sped to school a week later. Haydee moved slower that morning and now they were really running late. The speed limit was non-existent. Just the need to make it there before the kids arrived in the classroom. They are going sixty miles an hour towards the gate when Kriss saw something on the road with her vampire vision. "What is that?" she asked and turned down the music. Haydee didn't see it yet. Kriss slowed down as they approached what she know knows is a baby's car seat.

"It's a car seat," Haydee said as she squinted her eyes. Kriss turned off the car engine and heard a baby coo. She vamped over to it and inside was a baby wrapped in a muted orange blanket. On top of it was a navy diaper bag with printed moons and stars all over it.

"Go to class. I got this," Kriss said to Haydee. The young siphoner rolled her eyes before grabbing her backpack and heading inside. Kriss picked up the baby and the diaper bag then ran with vamp speed directly to Alaric's office.

The human headmaster hadn't yet had his first drink of the day so he was out of sorts to say the least. The surprise near shocked him to death and he jumped. "What the hell." Kriss gave him a smirk and looked at the pale baby in front of her. She put the diaper bag down on the chair as Alaric poured a drink.

"Before coffee?" The baby cooed and Alaric jumped again.

"Why is there a baby in my office?"

"I don't know. It was at the front gate."

"Can you smell who dropped it off?" Kriss stopped to make sure he saw when she rolled her eyes.

"Do I look like a bloodhound to you?" He put his hands up in surrender.

"Sorry. What is it?"

"Girl or boy? Guess we'll know upon first diaper change." She attempted to pass the baby to Alaric and he refused to take it.

"I'm not doing it,"

"I can't. You got yours brand new. Mine was a preteen when I received her. No potty training needed." Alaric slipped by her an the baby's crying got louder. Kriss held it away from her ears and winced. Too loud of a sound for her hearing.

"I guess its on me," she said to no one and looked around the diaper bag. Unwrapping the child from the blanket, she put it on the desk and went through searching the bag for the proper materials.

Twenty minutes and two diapers later, Kriss now knew the baby was a girl and also that she wasn't meant to be a mother from the womb. It was too hard. With fresh baby girl in hand, she headed to the primary school classroom. The children inside were going insane. As usual with the lack of supervision, they have descended into chaos. Children were every where except for Hope who was sketching in the corner as always. "Alright I'm here now. Simmer down before I have to do it for you. The easy way."

Kriss started the class but the baby would cry every few minutes. And she still hadn't been fed. An hour or so in, they were joined by Bonnie. She looked confused at the baby but signaled to the children. "You want me to?" Bonnie offered and Kriss took the help gladly. Collecting the baby's things, they left the classroom and went into the garden. Kriss looked through the bag and baby blanket. There was a moon stitched on a corner and the name Joanna.

"What a cute name. Hi little Jojo," she said and nuzzled the baby then was rewarded with coos, "What are you?" she squinted at the baby and received no reply. They spent a little time together outside getting fresh air before heading back in and finishing out the day. When she and Haydee were ready to go, they headed out the door. Kriss could hear shouting behind her and she turned around to see what the disturbance was. Alaric came running out of the house.
