Chapter 5

Daniel's POV:-
It's been a couple of weeks since Zach and I started hanging out and he began to open up to me. I was happy he was doing so. But I could still feel an unnecessary awkwardness hanging between us and no matter what I did, I hadn't found out the reason behind it yet.

Today Zach was running a little late and I was getting worried. I was about to go to find him when he came into view. As always I had my two servants with me but I told them to leave us and go a little far off so I could talk to Zach properly.

He still wasn't used to strangers.

My eyes widened as he approached me and I was shocked to see a dark bruise forming on the side of his left cheek. He sat down beside me not looking me in the eyes.

"What happened Zach?", I asked straight away.

"I'm sorry, Your Highness", he mumbled."I was a little late. I got caught up with work".

I frowned. He was avoiding my question.

"Zach? I asked you a question.", I said slowly."And I've told you not to call me "your highness" anymore. We're friends now. Call me Daniel or Dani".

"Sorry Daniel", he mumbled again still not looking me in the eyes.

I decided to change the subject as he was in no mood to talk about what had happened because he was completely ignoring it, although I had a faint idea of what might have actually happened but I didn't want to jump to conclusions. So instead of asking him the same question again I started talking about random stuff.

At 5pm which was his usual time to leave, we both got up and I walked him to his house with the guards following close behind. Once he got inside, I left for the castle.

Once arriving, I made my way to my room and collapsed on the bed, sighing loudly.

I just couldn't get Zach off my mind. No matter how much I tried. And the more we started to hang out, the more I started falling for him.

But there was still the awkwardness between us. Zach was a shy guy. I knew that. But that wasn't shyness he showed me today. It was like he didn't want me to find out about something.

I frowned trying to think of what it could be. I had a couple of ideas to what it was but none of them were guaranteed to be true. Unless of course Zach told me.

I had made up my mind that I was going to investigate tomorrow.

I got in bed after having a small dinner and closed my eyes, dreaming about Zach. There was one thing that was pretty obvious.

I was completely and madly in love with Zach Herron.
