Your P.O.V.
"But where could she be?" Toni's voice echoed through my head as my hands held onto the cold metal of the bench beneath me."What if something bad happened to her?"
The silence was deadly, none of us saying a word anymore. Toni kept walking in circles, her footsteps echoing through the locker room with every step she took. We were desperately trying to figure out where Cheryl could be. After she ran off during lunch no one had seen her anymore and now that it was the end of the day, we were seriously getting worried. I even called Penelope, but she too had no idea where her daughter could be. Not that she sounded concerned as she probably couldn't care less anyway. "God, she could be anywhere." My voice was shaking. It was now 4 p.m, we were done with all our classes and everyone went home, except for the Vixens. They always had training on monday afternoons.
"What should we do?" Toni asked me as she finally sat down to stop herself from anxiously walking around. "Grab your bag, I know where she is." I sternly told her before making a b-line for the door. She followed me outside, to her motorcycle and gave me questioning look. "Toni, I need you to drive us to Sweetwater River." It was clear now, Cheryl went to the place where she'd always go when she felt down. It made her feel safe and at peace. "She's here, I know it." Once we had arrived, we could hear the sounds of the water in the river flowing calmly. I was getting more anxious by the second, fearing that Cheryl might not even be there. Toni grabbed my arm before I could run off though, motioning for me to give her the helmet back. "I'm going to find Veronica." What, why would she do that? I remember thinking it was weird for her to do it for me. This was something I had to do myself, but at the end of the day I had too much on my place. "Good luck! And call me when you need me!" Before I could answer she drove off, leaving me with the trees and water flowing sounds. It was really calming, gotta say. My hands were shaking a little, fearing the worst when I arrived at the river itself. Looking up at the fields of grass besides the river, my eyes fell upon a small fragile figure. "Cheryl?" I screamed out from across the river. She slowly looked up at me, her body crawled up inside of her arms and a white dress. I ran to the other side of the river as fast as I could.
"God, I was so worried about you." I sat down next to her still panting from running all the way to the other side of the river. "Don't ever do that to me again." But when I tried to give her a hug, she pulled herself out of my embrace. "Don't." I frowned, tilting my head to the side. "Cheryl, I'm sorry." She shook her head with her eyes closed causing a tear to slide down her cheek. I wiped it away with my thumb, before fully facing her. "Please tell me what's going on. I'm begging you, talk to me." Cheryl then finally looked at me. Her eyes were filled with something I couldn't quite recognise let alone understand. "I'm the one that should be sorry." Were the first words she then spoke. And as I was trying to understand where all of this was coming from, my head got more and more clouded. She soon averted her gaze back to the water. "For not seeing it soon enough." Cheryl's words left me confused, thinking to myself. "Not seeing what?" I asked desperately wanting answers. My hand gently touched her arm as I tried to get her to look at me again. "Cheryl, I don't understand." I suppose she had been growing impatient, and she let everything out at once. "My mom is sending me away, y/n! To some school in Switzerland for a whole year, just because she hates me and there's nothing that I can do." She started crying again, harder and louder now. And by the time I tried to hold her, she had already fallen into my arms. "Shh, it's ok." I whispered trying to calm her dowm. Her body was shaking, making my heart ache at the sight in front of me. Never had I seen Cheryl this defeated before. "We're going to figure this out. You got me, Cheryl."
Soon, Cheryl and I arrived at my house. Just in time because Penelope already started calling to ask where her daughter was. But not because she was worried, of course. "Make it stop." I was preparing a quick meal for Cheryl, when her phone kept ringing unstoppably. I skipped to her side and canceled the call on her phone once more. "You know you can throw your phone out that window right?" I said pointing towards the window in my living room, which made her chuckle. After I had returned to the stove, grabbed a plate and put Cheryl's food on it, I swiftly pushed the plate across the table. It came to a stop right in front of her, putting a smile on her face. "For my princess." I said before embracing her in a cute hug from behind. "Thank you." That's when the doorbell rang making my head shoot up. "Be right back, mon cherri." Cheryl started munching on her food, and seeing her do better already made me feel good too. I walked towards the door, hoping it wouldn't be Penelope. Instead of seeing the devil incarnate, it was Toni standing on my doorstep. "Oh shit, sorry." I totally forgot to tell her that I went home after she dropped me off at Sweetwater River. She let out a sigh. "I figured you guys would be here." The red car in front of my house gave it all away, I figured. "Let's talk later?" But before I could tell her to go, Toni took a step closer. "Can I talk to her?" Cheryl was probably not waiting for Toni to interrogate her. "Please?" But at the end of the day, Toni was now a friend of Cheryl's too. "Ok then, come in."
That night we talked a lot. We seemed happy and enlightened, for now. Tomorrow would be the day that answers would be given and things would change, even though we didn't want them to. Toni was smiling, happy with the fact that Cheryl didn't have a grudge against her anymore. And as one issue went, another one came. I was yet to hear about her conversation with Veronica the next day, but until then we would laugh and have a great time for the night.
