Chapter 7

*after school*

Haley was working as she did every day after school. Her freshman year she took a job at Karen's Cafe, and Karen gladly gave it to her because she needed the help but she also loved Haley and Nathan spending more time together. So as Haley was cleaning up tables Nathan walked into his mothers cafe.

"Hey Hales." He said as he walked over to the counter and sat down. Haley then brought the plates in her hands in the back and picked up a plate filled with fries and a glass full of Coke, "Here ya go." she said as she sat Nathan's food down and leaned her elbows on the counter. Nathan reached for the ketchup bottle and squirted a ton of ketchup on the side of the plate to dip his fries in. He was about to reach for the straw to put in his drink but he was too slow as Haley swiped it off of the table opened the white wrapping put it into the drink and drank a few gulps of the soda. "Hey! That's my drink!" Nathan said as Haley started to laugh, "Yeah well, you should have been expected that. Plus you love me!" Nathan looked at her in fake anger and said "You wish." Haley took her right arm off the table and patted Nathan's cheek as she whispered "You'll get over it Nate."

Just as Nathan was about to reply that voice that they both dreaded spoke... "Oh look its the Illegitimate baby and his girlfriend." Nathan turned around and stood up to look at Lucas. Haley saw this and immediately looked at Nathan. His face was bright red and he looked as if steam would pour out of his ears any second. She then got out from behind the counter and stood her 5'3 frame in front of Nathan's large 6'2 frame, and finally spoke "Lucas I suggest you leave." He replied with a scoff and said whilst laughing "Darling I can do whatever I please." The sincere remark of "Actually we have the right to refuse service to anyone, so I am asking nicely for you to leave." Nathan looked down at her with his eyebrows raised in surprise. Lucas looked equally surprised at this, maybe even more so and replied with "Actually I didn't come for the food, I came for you gorgeous because this dork doesn't deserve you, you are just too hot so how 'bout I take you from here and show you a REALLY good time, if ya know what I mean." He added a wink after that and Haley rolled her brown eyes.

The body behind Haley was about to move but she stopped him by putting a hand on his chest. "Well that is a mighty fine plan Lucas, but sorry I would rather not have anything to do with that as far as I'm concerned I am pretty happy with this "nerd" as you call him." After this remark Lucas looked like his eyes would pop out of his head and start rolling on the floor because of this, he has never been rejected before. But he recovered quickly and scoffed saying "Your loss." as he turned and walked out of the cafe. Haley turned around and Nathan put his hand up for her to high five. She quickly slapped his hand and then trotted off to a table to waitress it. Nathan looked at her the whole time she walked, sat back down and continued to eat his french fries as he thought back to the encounter with his so called "brother".
