Dean sits on the bed in a motel. Rose walks up to him: 'Are you ok?'
'Bored.' He tells her. He has been on lockdown since their last case.
'I'm sorry.' She doesn't know how to do this and sits beside him. She realizes that she hurt him. 'I think it's smarter if I leave.'
'Why?' He asks: 'Why come back at all?'
'It's safer when I'm not around.' She says: 'I'm still a monster even when I try not to be one; I can't run away from it.'
'Don't.' He says; he holds her arm and turns towards her: 'Don't leave.'
'Why not?'
'Because.' He starts to speak when Sam walks in. 'We definitely have a case here.' He tells them without looking up from his documents. Rose moves away and stands up from the bed. Dean looks at her.
'And did you get in to see the crazy woman?' Rose asks.
'Yeah. Gloria Sitnick. And I'm not so sure she's crazy.'
'But she seriously believes that she was ... touched by an angel?' Dean asks Sam.
'Yeah. Blinding light, feelings of spiritual ecstasy, the works. I mean, she's living in a locked ward, and she's totally at peace.'
Dean sits up: 'Oh yeah, you're right; sounds completely sane. What about the dude she stabbed?'
'Uh, Carl Gully. She said she killed him because he was evil.'
'Was he?'
'I don't know. I mean, I couldn't find any dirt on him. I mean, he didn't have a criminal record. He worked at the campus library and had lots of friends. He was a churchgoer.' Sam states.
'Hm. So then Gloria's just your standard-issue wacko. She wouldn't be the first nutjob in history to kill in the name of religion. Know what I mean?' Dean says.
'Maybe he was evil, but nobody knew about it.' Rose suggests.
'Could be.' Sam says: 'But anyway, she's the second in town to murder because an angel told them to. A little bit odd, don't you think?'.
Dean shrugs: 'Well, little odd, yes, supernatural, maybe. But angels? I don't think so.'
'Why not?' Sam asks and finally turns his head towards his brother.
'Because I've never seen one.'
'So what?'
'I believe in what I can see.'
'Dean! You and I have seen things most people couldn't dream about.'
'Exactly. With our own eyes. That's hard proof, ok? But in all this time, I have never seen anything resembling an angel. And don't you think that if they existed, we would have crossed paths with them? Or at least know someone that crossed paths with them? No. This is a demon or a spirit. They find people a few fries short of a happy meal and trick them into killing these random people.'
'Maybe.' Sam says. He looks at Rose. There is a lot more than they have seen.
Dean stands up: 'Can we just — I'm going stir-crazy, man. Hey, let's go by Gloria's apartment, huh?'
Sam shakes his head: 'I was just there. Nothing. No sulfur, no EMF ...'
'You didn't see any fluffy white wing feathers?' Dean jokes.
Sam sighs: 'Gloria said the angel gave her a sign beside Carl Gully's doorway.'
'Could be something at his house; it's worth checking out.' Dean says, and Sam nods. Dean looks at Rose: 'Are you coming with us?'
'Go.' She says.' I'll stay here. See if I can come up with anything else than angels.'
Dean is driving as they pull up at Carl Gully's house. It is an average single-family home with steps leading up to the front door; a plastic angel figure is to the right of the door. Dean mounts the steps and sees it: 'Oh hey, Sam. I think I found it.' He points to the angel, turns around, and looks at his brother: 'It's a sign from up above.' He looks around and peaks through the window.
Sam walks away from the steps that lead to the front door.
'Well, I think I learned a valuable lesson: Always take down your Christmas decorations after New Year's, or you might get filleted by a hooker from God.' Dean tells him, walking back to his brother.
Sam wanders through a gate, and Dean follows; they find a wooden storm cellar: 'You know, Gloria said the guy was guilty to his deepest foundations.'
'You think she literally meant the foundation?'
Sam opens the creaking door, and they go down the steps, shining flashlights. Dean goes to the left, and Sam turns his flashlight to his right. He sees his brother looking at the wall looking for a clue.
Sam notices scratches on a wall near the floor; he leans over to get a closer look: 'Hey.'
'You got something?' Dean asks and comes towards him.
Sam looks closer and digs at the wall, and pulls something out.
'What is it?'
'It's a fingernail.'
Dean takes out two shovels. They reveal a pit with a pile of skeletons.
Sam looks down at it: 'So much for the innocent churchgoing librarian.'
'Yeah, well, whatever spoke to Gloria about this knew what it was talking about, I'll give you that.
