They're at Evan Hudson's house now. Dean, Sam and Rose approach the front door. Sam knocks.
A moment later, Evan opens the entry: 'Yes.'
'Evan Hudson?' Rose asks.
Dean adds: 'You ever been to a bar called Lloyd's? It would have been about ten years ago.'
Terrified, Evan slams the door and locks it.
'Come on, we're not demons!' Dean complains.
'Okay, and now what?' Rose asks: 'One of us kicks the door in, and I'll wait here?
Dean steps back, sets himself, and then kicks the door down in one go. 'Exactly.' He and Sam enter.
Sam turns the handle and pushes the door open. The room is quiet. As they enter. Evan jumps from behind a bookshelf: 'Please don't hurt me.'
Sam holds his hand out: 'We won't hurt you, alright? We're here to help you.'
'We know all about the genius deal you made.' And the mess we now must clean up, Dean reminds himself.
'What? How?' Evan says. He looks scared. He's definitely not prepared to deal with this.
Sam stays calm: 'Doesn't matter. All that matters is we're trying to stop it.'
'Can you stop it?' Evan asks.
Dean shrugs: 'Don't know. We'll try.'
'I don't want to die.' Evan admits.
'What'd you ask for anyway, Evan? Huh? Never need Viagra? Bowl a perfect game? What?'
'My wife.' Evan says, looking more confident.
Dean laughs. Sam tries to stop him, but Dean says: 'Right. Getting the girl. Well, that's worth a trip to hell for.'
'Dean, stop.' Sam tells him, looking angry at him. Evan made the deal. He knew what was coming.
'No. He's right. I made the deal. Nobody twisted my arm, that... woman, or whatever she was, at the bar? She said I could have anything I wanted. I thought she was nuts at first, but... I don't know how to— I was desperate.'
'Desperate?' Sam asks. Dean looks back at Evan; what's going on?
'Julie was dying.'
'You did it to safe her?' Why?
'She had cancer, they'd stopped treatment, they were moving her into hospice, they kept saying... a matter of days. So yeah, I made the deal. And I'd do it again. I'd have died for her on the spot.'
'Did you ever think about her in all this?' Dean asks.
'I did it for her!'
Evan looks like he believes it. Dean doesn't: 'You sure about that? I think you did it for yourself. So, you wouldn't have to live without her. But guess what? She's going to have to live without you now. What if she knew how much it cost? If she knew it cost your soul? How do you think she'd feel?'
The brothers stand in the hallway. The door is left open. Rose looks inside.
'I got an idea.' She hears Dean tell Sam: 'You throw George's hoodoo at that hellhound; keep it away from Evan as long as you can. I'm going to go to the crossroads and summon the demon.'
'Summon— are you nuts?
'Maybe a little. But I can trap it. I can exorcise it and buy us time to figure out something to do.'
'No, no way.'
'You're not allowed to say no, Sammy, not unless you've got a better idea.'
'You know, you've been on edge since we found that crossroads, Dean, and I think I know why.'
They didn't see her.
'We don't have time for this.' Dean says and starts to walk away.
'Dad. You think maybe Dad made one of these deals, huh? Hell. I've been thinking about it. I'm sure you've been thinking about it too.' Sam says, and Dean turns around.
'It fits, doesn't it? I'm alive; Dad's dead. The yellow-eyed demon was involved. What if he did? What if he struck a deal? My life for his soul?' Dean tells Sam, and when they hear Evan yells. Dean looks at his brother: 'Just keep him alive, okay? Maybe Rose can help?' When he goes outside, he walks right past her. She worries about him.
Sam walks up to her: 'Follow him.' He tells her.
'Sure, you're going to be okay?' She asks.
'You're worried about him because it's true?' Sam asks. She hesitates but nods. 'Then go, Rose, I'll be okay. The hellhound isn't here for me.'
