He towered over her like a dark shadow. "Watch where you're going, my lady," he warned. His large hands let go of her. Vivian looked back and saw his hands clench into fists.

She felt worse than ever before. Vivian wasn't sure if it was for the man, or because she felt the eyes of everyone barring down her back. The lavishly dressed women stared at her in silence before turning back and whispering among themselves. Vision scrunched her brows in utter confusion. All that for the interaction of one man. Infamously she turned into the refreshment room and grabbed herself a drink to inhale. It took her a couple moments of silence before eventually venturing out to find Ruby. As the stares of women followed her she tried her best to ignore them by talking herself through. Feel normal, be normal, act normal.

How hard could it be?

Passing by people under the golden lights she saw a familiar slim figure with ginger hair and the famous apple green dress that Ruby liked to wear to special events, this being one of them. It was strange. Her sister surrounded herself with more upper class women than people she knew. Ironically, Ruby always made fun of upper class women. The moment Vivian quickly went over to her and grabbed her arm she felt her stomach churn, "Ruby, you'd never guess what happened"

The ginger head froze and whipped around. Her face unrecognizable. "My goodness what manners you have, who do you think I am?"

"Oh dear! I'm so sorry I didn't mean too-"

"Vivian," Ruby grabbed her by the hand and pulled her away. "I apologize my ladyship, forgive my dear sister she's utterly bewildered with the generosity of her surroundings." Vivian gave once last glance at the ginger who scoffed and turned back around with her bundle of friends. Ruby pulled her away into a corner where the number of men outnumbered that of the women.

"No one shall gossip much here," Ruby whispered.

"Ruby who was she? you both looked identical from behind, I couldn't"

Ruby giggled, "I wouldn't be surprised"

"I'm serious Ruby, who was that and why did you address her in that way?"

She scanned the room to make sure everyone was too invested in their babble to hear her before she spoke. "That's one of the Wrights, her name is Agatha, daughter of one of the biggest business men in the country. As a matter of fact they are the ones hosting this ball," Ruby stepped closer and whispered into her ear. "There are rumors of her being enthralled with a servant boy."

"Servant boy? that's unheard of"

"Indeed"

"But it's just a rumor," Vivian replied.

Ruby shrugged and gazed up with a smile. "Look there!" grasping Vivian's shoulders she whirled her around. Vivian squinted her eyes when Ruby pushed Vivian in front of her and closer to the center of the ball. She gasped.

"What in the world are we looking at?"

"Don't you see that handsome young man in the black dress coat intervening Agatha's  conversation?" Ruby nodded toward yet another familiar face with dark brown hair and eyes as cold as stone. The women around him seemed intimated by his presence. They stiffened up and glared at him in awe. As did Vivian from far away in complete recognition. She leaned back into her sister, her eyes staying on the tall man.

"Who are we looking at?"

"That's Lady Agatha's brother, Jasper, he is the only son of Sir Wright. They say his fortune and all business precedents is to be passed down to him after his reign."

It felt like a blow to the head. How much of a clumsy incompetent fool could she be? Vivian eyed the man carefully. All so suddenly Jasper looked up from Lady Agatha and met her eye. She was breathless. "Vivian?" Ruby stood next to Vivian and saw her fidgeting.  "What's the matter?"

Vivian turned away. "I'm not sure"

"Are you nervous?"

She shrugged, "possibly"

"Don't worry Vivian, Jasper naturally intimidates everybody, he always does. With a man of his statue you probably won't even cross paths tonight."
