"I want you to reimburse my father for the six months you left him out of job, and then I want you to give him his job back."
Jasper looked at her dully.
"Must I do such a thing?"
"Yes!" Vivian exclaimed as she shrunk under him even further. "And once you agree, which you will- you and me are going back downtown tomorrow. We're going to tell him the good news and apologize directly."
"That's a horrible idea," he said, leaning back with a frown.
"Why?"
"What makes you think that your father in his right mind would want to see me in the first place? we both strongly dislike each other, just as you and I are no different."
"So maybe we aren't and he won't, but once we go down there-"
"There is no WE in anything. There is only you. If you want me to through with that nonsense, you're going to have to go over there yourself."
"Then I'm telling everybody about you and your scheme to get a women-"
"LIES! all of it!"
Vivian narrowed her eyes. "As you hinted toward me earlier, they wouldn't know truth from lie. Society likes drama, Jasper. And if you don't give me what I want I will create it!"
Jasper stared at her blankly. "Where the hell did you learn how to do that?"
"Do what?"
"Threaten..bargain...become a hard to work with pain in the ass? I thought women very supposed to be ruled by their emotions.. or something among those lines."
Vivian tapped her feet on the ground pointedly to him, in which he sighed in realization and sat back down in a hunched position. "I am never trusting anyone again," he groaned to himself. "Not a soul."
"You can trust people," she said. "Just make sure you don't wrong the wrong people."
Jasper clenched his teeth and pointed an anger finger toward her. "If you really knew a thing about me you'd know I'm not one!"
Vivian stared at him for a moment to realize that she was right. She didn't really know much about him; not other than the yelling, the family feud, and the bits between his sister. There was so much to learn, and she was going to make a point to find out what she could to make sense of it all...soon. "We're leaving first thing tomorrow," Vivian walked past him. "Unless, you have a problem with that?"
"No, but you're not staying here," Jasper argued.
"But I have no where else to go."
"You have a sick father who misses you...go visit him."
"This late at night?" Vivian crossed her arms. "I thought we would visit him in the morning together."
"Then it's a good things you're not my wife," he said with a shrug.
Vivian wound up sleeping on the front porch that night with a small blanket. She could've blackmailed herself into earning a spot to sleep, but it didn't just feel right. She'd already overstepped her boundaries. Not to mention Agatha hadn't talked to her since their confrontation. She refused to do so even in the morning.
"Let's go, please," Vivian had been knocking on Jasper's door for a good few minutes now, without a response. Jasper opened the door so fast a gust of wind had pulled her in. "What is the meaning of this?" he asked angrily. "I'll get ready when I feel like I need to get ready, stop pressuring me."
"But we have to go meet my father first thing today," she said. "Besides, don't we have work to do after?"
Jasper got up in Vivian's face and laughed at it. "Work? what work? women don't work. They stay home to do the dishes and care for their offspring. I'm not going anywhere with you today!"
"Jasper you told me-"
"Good day madam," he said with such disdain before slamming the door in her face.
"What's gotten into you today!" Vivian cursed under her breath. She went back to disguise herself with a suit and tie. Obviously Jasper didn't care enough to take her threats seriously, for now she was just a women in his eyes and nothing more.
Well, that was not going to do.
