"I-"
"Shut up," Jasper cut of her off in an instant. "And don't say a word, before you make things worse."
In spite of what Jasper had said she stood there silently in embarrassment as he carried on and on about his tactics and the evolution of merging companies that now plagued the civilization. Mr. Crawford stood with a finger brushing against his lips in curiosity, while Vivian felt the burning sensation of Reuben's horrific stare the whole time.
"Alright men, we're done here. Let's carry on and get back to business like usual," he said as the men rose from their seats. "My father is not one to disappoint."
Jasper took his eyes off her and started meeting with other business men, leaving Vivian alone to fend for herself. Reuben got up and without Vivian knowing grabbed her by the arm and dragged her into the isolated room at back. "Ow, stop Reuben. You're hurting me," she gasped, yanking her arm out of his grasp.
"You cannot fool me, I know who you really are." His hot breath fanned Vivian's lips as she stared into his hooded grey eyes. "And if you don't reveal yourself to me, I shall do it by force."
"W-what are you talking about?" she stammered.
"Say it," Reuben demanded.
"Say what?"
"Tell me your name," Reuben said, cornering her slowly.
Vivian shook her head, the tears stinging her eyes. "I'm sorry, Reuben, I don't think I can do that."
"You took away my job that's been entrusted to me since I was a little boy," he spat, closing in on her. "I'm not taking no for answer so god help me- REVEAL YOURSELF TO ME."
Vivian studied him with glassy eyes. Did he really know who she was?
"I-I-"
All of a sudden the doors busted open and Jasper along with his other employees spilled into the room. They looked at Reuben, who was now grabbing Vivian's collar, the veins popped out of his neck in eagerness and frustration. Jasper rolled his eyes and grabbed his nephew by the ear. Reuben winced as he dragged him out of the other room and threw him into his office. His nephew screamed as his stomach smashed into the desk, spilling all the leftover ink to the ground.
"Now just what do you think you're doing messing with the new employee of the day?" Jasper said, scanning him up and down.
"Don't you mean partner in crime?" Reuben shot back.
"That too, but of course, we both knew that already." Jasper took a step closer, "I recommend you stay away from Mr. Smith from now on, or else you're going to have to deal with me." He nudged Reuben harshly. "Is that understood?"
"Awe, there's no need to be gay old nephew." Reuben teased while groaning in pain.
Jasper's face drooped.
"I'm not that old."
"Yes you are," Reuben said.
"No I'm not. Stop with the jealously."
Reuben smiled to himself. "Just how many holes have you had added to your belt since you hit twenty-five, two now- three perhaps?"
Jasper furrowed his brows.
"THERE ARE NO EXTRA HOLES ANYWHERE!"
Reuben chuckled and cracked himself a bottle of Gin. "There's no reason to get so excited, Jasper, you're nearing thirty. It's what to be expected. Out with the old, and in with the new." He glowered, "So please, let that 'Mr. Smith' monopoly guy go, take me back and all will be forgiven."
"Forgiven?" Jasper smirked. "That is the new young these days little nephew, and for your information little nephew- I can do way more than you can. Let's not forget who's in charge here."
Reuben held his hands up in defense, yet the frown still remained etched in his face. "You do realize your father has entrusted me to another company- just in case you do this, right?"
"And what is that exactly?" he seethed.
"This- pushing me away. Like you always do to the people you care about," Reuben pointed out. "I'm your friend, Jasper, I thought you trusted me."
"I don't have to trust anyone anymore," said Jasper. "Nobody can know what I've done."
Reuben narrowed his grey eyes. "You really want to just throw me out an never see me again, for some type of replacement just so you can get all the 'power' and 'money' you want?"
